Selling some old textbooks

I've put Used: acceptable condition on the description.

I've just realised a few have some notes in the front cover, or my initials - do you think I should update the listings to say that specifically? Or do you think it's covered in the word 'acceptable'?

I'm pretty sure I haven't answered exercises etc, and the notes are just inside the front cover, but can't be 100% sure so don't want to go into too much detail.

you need to go into detail.
Add to the description that there are notes inside the cover in pen/pencil. Check through them to see if you have answered the exercises and state to what extent you have done so.

BuzzingNoise · 24/07/2010 07:55

I think acceptable makes them sound really tatty. I would put good condition, but with some notes.

Hassled · 24/07/2010 08:01

I've sold textbooks etc through Amazon - it may be more relaxed on Ebay, but on Amazon you need to be as boringly specific as you can, e.g. some pencil markings in the margins of 7/316 pages, some highlighting, creasings to cover front and back etc - they still sell regardless.

StealthPolarBear · 24/07/2010 09:03

I have too many to sell, if I have to go back into each one I'd rather just give them to the charity shop

Thanks everyone though

BN - some are quite tatty - I just want rid of them to anyone who'll have them

But then others are better iyswim
Oh I don't know what to do
What a pain

Are you selling as a job lot or individual? If a job lot, I would just add a note saying there are some handwritten notes on some of the books, some are in good condition, others acceptable but some wear and tear.

StealthPolarBear · 24/07/2010 16:37

I am selling them all individually, think I hvae mucked this up

SPB, I would probably expect there to be some sort of notes and stuff on used textbooks, but I'd also want it to be mentioned in the listing.

Why don't you quickly cut and paste a short disclaimer into each listing stating there may be some writing in the book and to email you for details. If the bidder's bothered they'll contact you, if not they won't (in my experience most don't). May be a bit of a faff, but less faff than if someone wants a refund because the item isn't as described.

StealthPolarBear · 24/07/2010 21:15

OK, I will do that, thanks, think I need to. I have been doing "sell similar and just chnaging the title - if only I'd thought to include that from the start - I have about 20 on there now.
No bids, not even a single watch, anyone would think our 12 year old A level textbooks just weren't valuable

Thanks for the advice everyone

Just found the "Revise another item" link - makes life a bit easier

Who wouldn't want your old A-level textbooks? Would be to sell some of my old stuff; don't think there's much of a market for Shakespeare annotated with 'I heart ', 'Mrs Bloggs is a b*tch' and crude anatomical drawings. Shame really.

StealthPolarBear · 24/07/2010 22:04

well it might save someone doing their own graffiti? they might get a better mark too as they'd have nothing to do but concentrate

And when I'm a famous writer/artist they could be worth a fortune...

MissTired · 25/07/2010 19:08

any chance they are maths text books?? if so ill buy them if youre local enough to collect or postage not to high!

StealthPolarBear · 25/07/2010 20:46

They are MissT - I have a few bids but plenty still to go. I'm in Durham.
How come you want so many??

I had a quick look at your listings. IMHO you have given too little information about each book - no edition number, publishing year etc, and no pictures. I would be surprised if you got very much interest at all. I would certainly look elsewhere......

StealthPolarBear · 26/07/2010 11:13

thanks, you're probably right. TBH I put them on in a hurry to take advantage of the free listings, don't have time to do photos etc. I did put edition numbers on most of them. I felt all this was reflected in the price - I'm not going to make a huge profit!

I have had a few bids, will just have to see what happens I suppose.

OP posts:
PurpleFrog · 26/07/2010 12:31

I must have looked at the ones without edition numbers! I see you have a variety of end times. You can still add a free gallery photo to each one if you have time.

I also noticed you have a number of items starting at 50p or £1.00 - it is actually free to list with a start price up to 99p in these categories at any time.

If you have the time, you should probably concentrate on getting photos for the items you have listed at higher values.

I hope this helps...
