Dd is 17 and won’t engage with services. She’s asked me to help her stop binging. I have another teen in the house plus me, work full time (hybrid thank god) and she does well until every time I walk out the front door she’s in here stuffing whatever she can in. I’m at my wits end, she’s suffering with bloating, lost tonnes of weight as she’s restricting when not binging. I’m getting barrages of messages demanding I throw all the food out she’s going ballistic at me daily, crying, pulling her hair out, cutting herself in anger. I’m literally at my wits end here I don’t know wtf to do 😫😫😫 Any insight to this I’d be most grateful 🙏🏼

I wonder what the barriers are to her engaging with services, possibly she doesn’t know what to expect or is understandably anxious. I’m posting a link to ‘beat’ which may be a good first step, you can have a look first of course.

Please help me stop her binging 😩

Thanks for this, I’ve spoken to BEAT and they have said basically I’m doing all I can as a parent but I don’t have a clue how to practically manage the day to day eating habits. Was with her all day today, she was in a great mood. I had to go pick her sister up, she wouldn’t come with as she has massive anxiety and won’t go to the area sister was in. By the time I came back she’d binged again 😩

Top tier social anxiety is why she won’t engage, will not speak to a single person. I suspect ASD which has massively escalated the past few years following trauma but again she won’t acknowledge. Is bored to tears but won’t engage in anything to keep her mind active. I’m at a complete loss

What about a meal plan? The reason she is binging is because of the restriction - she starts eating and her brain is so used to the restriction that it urges her to eat as much as possible. She needs to eat 3 meals a day with 3 snacks so she is never going more than 3-4 hours without food. It took me a long time but this was definitely got me out of the cycle. I still plan weekly for 3 meals and 3 snacks per day.

I'm ADHD and I read an online article about how ADHDers can binge and restrict due to the dopamine.
I've restricted in the past alot.
When binge eaters start the dopamine starts and they want the nice feelings to carry on.
Maybe worth looking up signs online.

bored to tears and unable to be motivated rings true of ADHD.
