Poor circulation due to ED?

My Dd was diagnosed with an ED back in September, we have been going to CAHMS meetings, upto the last meeting she hadn't put on any weight that she had lost.
My question is linked to her circulation, her hands and feet have been going blue , numb and also white. When she gets out of the shower her feet look black and bruised!
Has anyone else noticed this problem? I've tried the non urgent triage at the doctors, but all non urgent appointments have been suspended until after Christmas!

Very classic for eating disorders in my experience. It was a hallmark of alot of the patients I cared for, with the caveat that they were hospitalised so obviously at the extreme end of the spectrum. Autonomic dysfunction was common, and she will likely be hypotensive in the shower. I would make sure this is flagged with GP to check her bp, heart rate etc. She could also do with an ECG. Some of my patients were at high risk of cardiac failure which I say not to scare you, but to be aware of.

Thank you, I have managed to contact the doctors and they are arranging for a routine appointment to be made for her.

My 11 is recovering from AN at the moment. When she was at her lowest weight in the summer, her hands, feet and lips were often blue and blotchy. They are starting to look a nicer more healthy colour now that she has started eating again but it was one things that made me very anxious for her. Her legs were also covered in bruises and would look grey/blue but that was also partly to do with the fact that she was hitting and punching herself.

Oh and after starting CAMHS she continued to lose weight for a while before we managed to stabilise things.

Keep going! Six months ago I thought I had lost her, but we stuck with our CAMHS team who have been amazing and she's turned around. The moment we could stabilize her eating, her mood lifted and it was much easier to reason with her. I got my little girl back.

I feel your pain though, it's still pretty raw x

How did she get on at the GPs @Aginplease Flowers

@Wiltshirelawyermum thank you, I'm glad things are brighter for you.

@TinyMouseTheatre we didn't end up going the doctors, she got chest pains , so I took her A&E, two ECG's and a chest scan later, all good, I mentioned the cold/blue hands and they said all normal for ED sufferers.
We had to have two ECG's as her heart rate was low, they also said this was common with them too.

Hi, my daughter is 10 next week and has been limiting her food intake for some time now, around 14 months. It’s almost impossible to get her to eat a full meal, she’s lost so much weight and is now under specialist outpatients appointments for monthly review. I’ve recently noticed her knees are purple most of the time. The veins in her hands protrude and there’s bumps in the veins like they’re swollen in some parts. Is this typical for ED? I really don’t know what to do she’s never had bloods and I’m in limbo worrying between not knowing if it’s due to an underlying health condition or if she really has an eating disorder. I’m ringing GP today to push for bloods to be taken. I’m so worried 😞

It’s common to have poor circulation and hands / feet can go purple. My dd’s fingers swelled when she started restricting. I got her diagnosed with Reynaud’s - I wasn’t really aware of the ED at the time - but I wonder if this will largely resolve when she’s weight restored. Her veins aren’t large so that didn’t happen to hers.
