Hi, I am a 33 year old but me and my mum live together with my two kids- 3 years and a 8month old.
Around 9 months ago, when I begun maternity leave, I noticed that my mum would go days without eating hardly anything and then one day she eats so much it’s like unbelievable to explain- she could maybe eat 3 sandwiches, 3 bowls of cereal, 6 packs of crisps.. chocolate.. cakes etc etc .. and then I have heard her being sick in the toilet straight after. She always downs loads of water before she does it so I know she’s going to do it. She has no idea that I know about it and although I have known for a long time. I have never approached it because I feel like she is an adult and like what can I do? She is a normal weight. But am I doing the right thing? Like I wouldn’t even no what to say to approach it if I did as she would just deny it.

This must be so hard, I do think you should say something though, even if she denies it. She might deny it at first but then you could try bringing it up again the next time you hear her being sick or see her eating loads or eating nothing. She would struggle to deny it if you’ve literally just seen it yourself.

In terms of how to approach it I would try and do it when the kids aren’t around (maybe when they’re in bed) and sit her down tell her you really care about her and are worried about the fact she doesn’t eat some days. Tell her it’s worrying you. When she’s ready to hear it, maybe suggest that she seeks help and support, it’s likely been going on for a while.

Good luck OP 🫶🏻

@OutsideEveryday thanks for your reply 🙈 it’s just so hard and awkward to approach it. I feel like I need to maybe text her because otherwise I just wouldn’t be able to say it 🙈
