Hi can anyone reccomend any high calorie shakes or drinks my daughter can try we have tried the Ensure ones but she doesn’t like them, I know she could be using this as an excuse but she said can I look for some others for her to try so I’m willing to do this. So if anyone can suggest any high calorie shakes or drinks I would be most grateful. She does have the yazoo ones at the moment

DD didn't like them or other high protein drinks either, and I genuinely think they don't taste very nice . She did have some of the "this is food". 500ml bottles.

I've been in an ED unit for four months and have had to drink ensure every day. It's not particularly nice. So I can understand her not liking it.
There is also Fortisip but I've never tasted that.
My Ds has ARFID and he liked Frijj milkshakes which his clinic encouraged. Maybe worth a try?

How old is your child?my daughter was 11 and on paediasure-the same as ensure but tastes slightly better, she only liked the chocolate though!and it was individual bottles, the powder mixture tasted very different

Yes it is!you wouldn't believe how much our daughter was eating, we were watching her eat so know she did consume it. But the 'micro exercising' she was doing cancelled it all out🫣 also to put on weight when you're at a normal starting point is a lot easier than putting on weight when you've been or are in 'starvation'.

Thanks she is doing anorexia recovery yoga at the minute not exercise like she used to. It is her last day at college today so as from 2moz I will be upping her intake and making her drink the this is food shakes. She has her first app at ED on wed I’m convinced they are going to admit her with how she is at the minute but we will see

DD was purging. Despite following her around the house she still managed to do it, and despite normal intake was loosing weight.
I never ever heard or saw her purging despite she did it on and off for over 2 years.
Routine Trip to the dentist made me realise

I sometimes have Complan. I like the chocolate one best.

TheMostly · 28/03/2024 09:47

I had the fortisip pink custard ones - similar to USA “pudding”. They were easier to get down than the shakes.

I would love to have them again.

TheMostly · 28/03/2024 09:48

At one point I had so many bottles of fortisip I used them to make American style pancakes for my son and husband because waste not want not. I’m pretty sure they ate them.

My daughter has a fear of being sick so I am most certain she’s not doing that, she doesn’t even like going toilet at college for a wee never mind to be sick and at home I do listen out every time she’s in bathroom just to be sure lol. Hope your daughter is ok and recovering it’s so hard isn’t it x

As someone much older with a severe ED, I think it's really important to try and crack it and get early intervention and recovery at a young age. It's so much more difficult to treat when it becomes a more chronic condition.
Good luck with the first ED appointment.

Helenloveslee4eva · 28/03/2024 11:42

From a non ED perspective as someone who used them with end of life parents , they all taste horrible and have an odd texture. I tried them.

complan savoury was ok ish. Add a dollop of double cream too.

dieticians recommend food fortification - in this context that would be say milk shakes made with full cream milk and proper ice cream with a dollop of cream too. Or even maccy d shakes. Or soup with cream added etc.

unfortunately restrictive eating and good avoidance is likely to not fit with any of this. She’s going to want to know exactly the calories etc etc.

goid luck

I found the juice style ones eg fortijuce much easier to tolerate than the Milky ones.

Or try maxijul powder and add it to food/drink. It has no nutritional value other than calories so check with dietitian that it's okay but it has virtually no taste.

Mumofellie · 15/04/2024 17:32

Nutritionist told us to keep away from them do we have done
