i have disordered eating. Can anyone give me any advice while I wait to hear back from them with a plan please ? I know why I can't eat normally, I haven't for six months, but I can't override the voice in my head.

Don't really have any advice, just wanted to handhold and say well done for getting medical attention. I have an undiagnosed ED (although am well at the moment- it has been serious enough to stop my periods and cause a stomach ulcer years ago.)
The thing that has helped me (alongside other stuff) is to give myself a specific time to eat, and plan ahead. That way, I still have an element of control, but it's to control myself healthily if that makes sense. This has helped me in times of anorexia and BED (all part of the same thing imo.)
Thinking of you x

Thank you @JamesPringle and I'm sorry to read you are having a tough time too. Can I encourage you to ask for help? I was very anxious but they were lovely and it was not as hard as I thought it would be.

Well done for seeking help and a diagnosis!

As someone who now considers themself in remission from anorexia and bulimia after flitting backing and forward for 10 years, I can say the waiting for a plan can sometimes be really difficult, especially if it’s the first time you’ve done through the process.

I’ve had CBT, SSCM, day patient treatment, and talking therapy of some sort I don’t remember which because it was nearly 15 years ago. Each has been a different but valuable in their own way.

I would have a look at the BEAT if you haven’t already. Southern Health outlines the different types of treatment you may expect based on what you have been diagnosed with. It may be different for your local service, but this may give you some ideas.

Try to weigh yourself no more than once a week if you can.

Expect that you may be asked to keep a food diary, as well as marking down any compensatory behaviours.

It might be worth making a note of you notice any triggers/specific feelings to any compensatory behaviours or binging.

As hard as it might be, try not to dwell on it too much. The more you worry about it, you’ll create a spiral which isn’t helpful - easier said than done I know.

I hope that is of some help!

Thank you very much.

They have rung to say they can't help me. All I am getting is maybe an appointment with a dietetic nurse. This is the second time in less than a year that the NHS has said they can't help me.

@BirthdayRainbow I’ve been in that position too. I’m sorry you haven’t got the help that you wanted.

Beat have self help resources as well so that might be worth exploring.

Wishing you all the best ❤️

I think the issue is I know why I can't eat and I don't think anyone can fix that. I think it is a case of once what I've got going on in my personal life is all resolved then I'll be able to try and start eating. I'm seeing the GP on Monday to discuss the physical effects of not eating as obviously I feel really unwell.
