Anorexia weight restoration

DD 22 has anorexia and has had basically no support through NHS other than online group therapy sessions, she's still waiting to see dietician.
When her BMI hit 16 we took control and devised a weight restoration plan.
Although so difficult for her she has eaten the 3 meals and 3 snacks per day. I think she is close to restoring her weight.
What happens then? Can she just revert to a normal diet of 3 meals? Can she exercise again?
Feel so alone and hope someone can help.
Thanks

The general advice is mental state not weight, so is she feeling better in herself? Has her anxiety reduced? Is she able to recognise hunger cues and respond to them?

The chances are she will need to go over whatever weight she was pre ED to allow for the best chance of recovery.

The biggest risk for relapse is reducing support too soon, it's likely she will need support for a long time (potentially years.)

Exercise is only okay once they are eating freely and able to increase calories intake inline with increased exercise.

Hi there, I have struggled with anorexia for close to 14 years. Do NOT revert meal plans, the average person is supposed to have 3 meals and 2/3 snacks depending on activity. You can start gentle exercise very slowly, maybe with yoga, Pilates, swimming walking to start but in a co trolled manner, 30 minute limit etc. The biggest mistake I have seen in my treatment experience is withdrawing the support and routine too soon which leaves you susceptible to relapse again. Also want to say, what you have done is truly amazing to have firstly, taken that responsibility on and then succeeded!! I have never heard anyone do this successfully. I hope you know what a wonderful thing you have done for your child. If I can help or answer any questions at all please let me know. Wishing your DD all the best!

I lost too much weight in my early 20s and my BMI was around 15.
Luckily I had weekly therapy where I was told to ignore everyone's advice and eat what myself and therapist devised.
I fell underweight when the dcs were babies too.
I only eat when hungry so little and often and never really managed to eat what others would think of as a huge meal.
My BMI is between 20 or 21 tops.
I would keep an eye on your dd but not make her feel under pressure to eat a certain amount as for me food or lack of it was something I could control.
My parents forcing me would have the reverse effect even though well intentioned.

OP. you have done an amazing job getting your daughter near weight restored with no professional help. We had a similar experience on the NHS and had to take matters into our own hands with help from a private psychiatrist and therapist. Although we are still in the early days we have been told that it is imperative not to withdraw support too soon (meal support, therapy etc). Can you check with your local ED unit if there is a Carers Support Group. If so, join that and you will have the opportunity to ask questions from an NHS ED specialist. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you
