I have had bad pnd after my last baby
snd I have realised today my bmi is 15!! It’s always been on the low side just naturally and it’s usually something between 16.5-17.5
i do suffer from anxiety and depression
in the past I was happy and bmi was at 16.5 before I got pregnant
I had a shock when I weighed myself recently and looked up my bmi as I’ve never been so low, it made me feel worried
a few details…
I am breast feeding my baby
I eat when I’m hungry ,which tends to be very hungry for the morning up to midday but then I don’t feel hungry after that! I eat any food i fancy and is usually high fat and highly carb and processed food, I take multivitamins and iron (have for past few months and pregnancy)
i eat mainly cereals, bread and butter, cake, cheese, biscuits, crackers, crisps ( not so much fruit and vegetables) but I am trying to eat a couple a day fruits and vegetables.
i don’t eat much protein as I am not overly keen on meat, but I do have beans and chicken most days.
some days I skip dinner as by the time kids are sorted I’m too tired and I don’t sleep well if I eat late as acid reflux is quite bad however if I’m hungry I will eat something plain like crackers milk and plain biscuits, other days I eat pizza or chips with kids.
I always have tons of energy and I lead a busy life, I’m out and about a lot and quite active on my feet a lot, but I don’t do any specific exercise.
so does it sound like an ed? I arnt sure how many calories I eat per day as I don’t calorie count and have no idea about how much calories or fat is in the food I eat!
however I am underweight

Hi,
It’s clear you’re worried so that in itself means it’s worth checking out.

In your post, you say you sometimes skip dinner but you’ve mentioned if that’s on purpose to lose weight/look thinner?

I think it’s definitely worth making an appointment with your GP to ask if they’ll do a blood test & rule out things that could be causing weight loss.

As a breastfeeding mum, you’re going to be maybe losing some weight and if you’re rushing around all the time, it’s easy to skip meals and not make enough time for you and the planning of nutritious meals. Breastfeeding will be using up calories, as well as nutrients from you so it’s good you’re taking sensible supplements to boost your intake.

One thing i would maybe factor in is the ‘eating when your hungry’ thing.
When you’re breastfeeding, whilst you don’t need to be eating for two, it’s important to keep your blood sugar balanced and give yourself enough energy to sustain night feeds and a growing baby’s needs. So even if you miss a proper evening meal, see if you can grab a bowl of muesli or Weetabix etc or something like Fuel 10k - to give you energy for the night feeds. Top with berries if you can for extra fruit.

Trying to get a healthy brekkie, lunch and tea with a couple of nutritious snacks, will be really good and will help you sustain you and the breastfeeding.
If your not keen on fruit and veg, try and sneak it into a sandwich with ham or cheese or tuna or have something like rice pudding with tinned peaches etc.

Do you feel like you’re trying to skip meals for a reason? Or could it be that you’re finding it tricky to juggle everything - especially with the PND too?

No it doesn't sound like an ED but you are very low weight so it's worth getting that looked into. With a BMI of 16 or so I'm surprised no health professional has investigated (eg thyroid).
Why do you think it might be an ED rather than an underlying physical condition?

Op, have you suffered an ed before, like anorexia? Your body weight is so low it’s bordering on inpatient levels. I would speak to a doctor. It’s important to be healthy for your child.
