Help for friend’s DD

My friend’s DD has just come back from her first term at uni and it is clear that she has an eating disorder. She is painfully thin and her hair is falling out. She has had an appointment with the GP but it was “useless” says my friend.

AFAIK this has come out of the blue and is possibly linked to anxiety about starting uni but my armchair diagnosis is probably irrelevant.

My friend has asked if I can recommend any clinics or therapists that might help. They are willing to go private. Does anyone have any recommendations for someone to help? Central/west London.

Hair falling out can often be iron deficiency and I’m shocked the GP didn’t order full blood work.

I’ve not used it, so can’t say how good or not good it is but you could suggest the Orri Clinic in London.

Contact one of the eating disorder charities for advice first but your friend can get a specialist assessment for around £400 then take that back to the GP for NHS treatment (or just stay private if feasible). Don’t choose a clinic without advice first.

I would recommend the charity BEAT for support - here.

There is a clinic in Windsor cardinal clinic.

I would also suggest getting in touch with student support services at her university to see what help they can offer.

Thanks all. Really helpful. I will pass all this on.
