Boyfriend and bulimia

My boyfriend has bulimia and I am really really struggling to deal with it now because he’s sick multiple times a day and he doesn’t clean up after himself and I am cleaning the toilet with bleach like 3-4 times a day, having to mop the floor, clean the walls, sink and the bath mat multiple times a day and I actually can’t do it anymore, it’s stressing me out, I’m trying to help him by trying to make him stuff that isn’t going to make him sick etc, he’s been to doctors they’ve told him he needs to get help through his work which he is doing but he doesn’t seem that arsed to help himself but I am going stir crazy cleaning up after him all the time!! It’s making me physically sick cleaning it. I’ve told him to please tidy up after himself and he will just wipe what he can see and leave it at that but when I say wipe that’s an over statement, I am at my wits end constantly cleaning etc, I cannot deal with it any longer, it's been going on for about 6 months now and I'm 21 weeks pregnant and I just am struggling to keep everything clean all the time. Anyone got any advice???,

I don’t know what to say here, so hoping someone will come along with some suggestions....
I had bulimia for around 5/6 years, no one ever had to clean a toilet after me! In fact, you get very adapt at how to make it as quick and effective as possible with the least mess / noise possible..... so basically not sure if the mess can be blamed on the bulimia or your partner just being a lazy fuckwit!!

Sorry you’re going through this Flowers

This sounds awful OP, and quite unusual for bulimia.

What do you mean by "stuff that isn't going to make him sick"?

Did the GP refer to ED services?
What help is he getting via work?
Is he WFH?

People suffering with bulimia usually feel great shame and do what they can to conceal heir illness and the evidence of it.

By stuff that isn't going to make him sick I mean what he told me the doctors suggested he eats, like staying away from really fatty foods that he will feel guilty about eating, and only eating smaller portions but a bit more frequently! He is working from home at the moment and he has been given an app from his work to go onto but I've told him I'm sure he will need to see a therapist or something to help him build his relationship back up with food, he just doesn't seem to want to help himself and it's really frustrating me. It's completely putting a wedge in our relationship. I've busted scrubbed the bathroom for an hour and a half, giving it a deep clean and ive just gone back through and sick all over the toilet, all over the floor etc. I'm sat here sobbing, I literally cannot deal with this any longer, I really don't want him here any more until he can learn to clean up after himself or actually seeks some help to get him to stop. It's so tiring

Previous bulimic here and I’m really surprised at this. I hid my being sick and part of this is cleaning the toilet. I’d have been mortified if my partner was having to do this. I was also ashamed and wanted to get rid of the evidence for myself as much as him. Leaving it there is lazy, rude and drawing attention to it.

I don’t think this is just something you have to put up with on account of his illness. Would he do the same in other friends/families houses?

Tempusfudgeit · 03/05/2021 13:28

Theoretically would you keep cleaning up after his SH injuries? As PP have said, this is really unusual behaviour for an ED suffer which makes me think there's more going on. I would end the relationship frankly, it's too much and won't lead to your and your possible future children's happiness long term.

Agree this is atypical behaviour for a bulimic so there's loads more psychological shit going on there to be leaving puke all over the bathroom. He wants you to know what he's doing, he wants you to clean it up, it's very very weird and I would be running a mile.

This is very strange behaviour. Bulimia, by its nature, is a secretive illness. In my experience, people go to extreme lengths to hide their bulimia.

There is something else going on here. What are your living arrangements? Do you rent or own?
