Anorexia help

Dh has developed anorexia and has recently been hospitalised. Likely to be there for months. I am really worried about the impact of his illness and now his long absence on our kids. Does anyone have any experience in dealing with this?

Oh pjl33 I don’t have any experience sorry, just wanted to offer my sympathy Thanks

Are you getting any RL support?

pjl33 · 23/08/2018 22:55

Apparently we will get some family counselling...but hospital is over 90 mins drive away. Hopefully it'll all become clearer, but right now I feel pretty low about it all. Thanks for your kind reply.

Is that 90 minutes each way? That’s going to be tough for all of you Thanks

It's an awful illness, I'm struggling with it at the moment but am fortunate enough to be close enough to our e.d unit to be able to attend as a day patient
The only advice o can give is be there for him and bear in mind it takes a long time to recover

So sorry that you are going through this.
How old are your children and what have they been told?

pjl33 · 04/09/2018 23:53

Kids are 10 and 12. I have tried to explain to them, but when DH is ill they find him distant and stressful. Sadly, I think they are pleased he isn't at home for a bit. My 10 year old son is a bit anxious and wants to stay close. I have been told my 12 Year old daughter is now quite high risk for an ED as her father has one. Overall they are great kids and doing well at school, but situation is far from ideal.
