Hi.
Did anyone reading this who did DE IVF get the genetic testing done? Was it worth it?
Thanks.

Yes we did. I think it was worth it for peace of mind and wasn't particularly expensive.

I didn’t experience this personally, but a few years ago I watched a very disturbing film about a patient who underwent IVF abroad using donor eggs that had not been genetically tested. Although the donor was young and had undergone standard screening (but no PGT testing), the baby was born with a severe genetic condition and sadly passed away five days after birth.
This is why genetic testing is extremely important—especially if you are undergoing treatment at clinics that are not considered top-tier. If I’m not mistaken, leading clinics usually include PGT testing as a standard or mandatory part of their IVF protocols. You can verify this information on platforms such as eggdonationfriends, which provide detailed clinic profiles, including whether PGT testing is offered, even when clinics do not clearly state it on their own websites.Good luck

@blacksnow Thanks a million. The problem is we want to go non-anonymous which means Portugal, but they don't do PGT on DE embryos. It's not allowed by law.

@Weeseyannabox Portugal do enhanced genetic testing instead. It identifies hundreds of illnesses by testing for thousands of mutations in the patient and her partner (or in the egg or sperm donor if applicable). From my research, I gathered that PGT was recommended for recurring miscarriage, older eggs more likely to be aneuploid or a known genetic issue in family so I didn't consider it with DE. I really rate Portugal. Have you considered other countries when donors are non-anonymous? Denmark?

@Sara237 I think we've spoken before. Thanks very much. Yeah; that's what I meant. That's what I was asking (obviously not very clearly!) - has anyone done the enhanced testing you mention. Nope - we've paid a deposit in Portugal, so not going anywhere else now. That's a really good point; that IS the main reason why PGT is done, because of older eggs, so chances are - hopefully - that with donor eggs, the PGT isn't needed as much. Thanks for pointing that out ;) I've had 3 very early miscarriages, which is most likely to do with egg quality. A reproductive immunologist's clinic that I'm consulting with said it's a bit of a money-maker (the comprehensive genetic matching / testing) with DE and they wouldn't think it's necessary but I'm beginning to think it's worth it for peace of mind. Did Portugal go well for you?

@Weeseyannabox It did go well; I'm 17 weeks pregnant after first attempt! I briefly considered other countries but always came back to the ethics of non anonymous . I think it's a fundamental right to have access to info on genetics. Even if they don't want to/feel the need. That a future person should have the choice is key for us. Communication wasn't always the best and the consultant was always really late but overall, I'd rate them highly. And the transfer was the best experience of a transfer I'd ever had! Good luck!

@Sara237 No way. That's brilliant. Congratulations!

@Sara237 By the way, did you do the genetic matching tests?

@Weeseyannabox Yes, think was about 300 euros at the time so seemed worth it. In for a penny...!
