Hi, wondering if anyone had failed experience of embryo transfer, what should to do for seeking the next donor? and what should ask to Doctor? The costs for DE is very expensive, can't think if pay this fees again and nothing guaranteed. The first DE, purchased 10 eggs, only had one low grade embryo, not sure if this is the reason for a failed transfer, talked to LEB, but seems they can't control the egg quality, so the question is how do we know the eggs purchased are with good quality and develop to high grade embryo?
Coming to DE this route, thought it would be easier than using my own egg, however, the first DE treatment is frustrated me :(

Sorry for your experience. I would ask for a proven donor. Someone who has donated before and children have been born as a result. If proven then maybe more test on the sperm? We had a failed donor round and then two successful rounds from first initial batch. We went to Greece to do the donor ivf and cost was €6000 excluding medication (cheaper to by meds over there) and then €1000 to save remaining embryos up to a year, transfer cost included in the €1000. Did cheap Ryanair flights to go over and had nice airbnbs. Clinic keen on full hysteroscopy before treatment so that was another €1650. We only got 8 eggs, 6 that made it to embryo stage. It was important to me that the donor wasn’t overstimulated as some clinic promise 15-20 eggs and it doesn’t feel right to me. Have a little one standing in front of me now and one in my belly. Good luck.

thank you very much for your reply and congratulations! The problem for me is I am in a minor group, not much selection available, I don't know if I go abroad such as Greece or Spain, other European country would help to have more choices, but I will consider the proven fertility as you mentioned.

Hi, hopefully he did a dna fragmentation test not just motility. Unfortunately male fertility isn’t tested that well. The person to see in London is Dr Jonathan Ramsey or one of his colleagues.
it might be worth exploring clinics in Spain and Greece. The population is mixed with different ethnicities but not as mixed as the uk.

@Anonemouse1 thank you very much for the information! Will do some research about Dr. Jonathan Ramsey, thanks!

I’m sorry to hear this happened to you. I’m sure it’s been a huge blow. A similar thing happened to me on my first cycle. Sadly, I don’t think you can guarantee high quality eggs but ensuring the donor is young and has a proven positive outcome helps to improve your chances. The clinic said it was just bad luck and although they were right, it is so hard to accept. However good the odds with egg donation, any fertility treatment can be a cruel numbers game. It took me so much to build up to having another go. To have the strength and confidence I needed, I had a private hysteroscopy and asked the clinic to re-plan my hormone protocol. All of this was expensive, time consuming and even more emotionally draining, but it helped because I knew trying again wasn’t a waste of time. Thankfully, the next cycle was successful. I think you should do whatever you need to give you some reassurance before trying again. If you are concerned about the financial side, some clinics, certainly overseas, offer discount off your second round or guarantee schemes which can help to take the pressure off.

Hi @Florence329 , thank you for the message! would you mind to tell why you did hysteroscopy? Is Dr to ask you to do it? or you just feel it? Any hurt for this?

The clinic I used was abroad. I was convinced it was issues with my uterus not the embryo so I booked a scan in the UK to see if there were any issues before going through the treatment again. The sonographer spotted a small mass. The specialist said it was most likely to be a menstrual clot and there was no issue with pursuing another cycle. I wanted to be sure there were no polyps etc so I booked a private hysterectomy in the UK. I opted for a general rather than local anaesthetic so I can’t tell if it was uncomfortable or not but I had no issues afterwards. It turned out that my uterus was fine. It seems like such a lot of money to have spent but I really think it gave me some hope plus there is evidence that a hysteroscopy acts like a endometrial scratch and can help an embryo implant if you have it within 2 months of the transfer (which is what I did.) I really hope everything works out for you. Don’t lose hope; I have been on a fertility journey for over 7 years and donor egg ivf made my dreams come true. I have a friend who had 3 cycles before it worked but then had 2 successful cycles in a row. As I said before, it is a numbers game but the odds are much more in your favour with de.

@Florence329 , massive thank you for your story and kind words, I feel moving and heart warming, not easy journey for everyone, the successful story can cheer up each other, I hope my next treatment will be succeed, thank you, hope you all the best
