Hi @scunni92
My wife and I are on this journey in Scotland too.
Happy to answer any questions you have so far!

My wife and I have an almost three year old, I carried using a donor from the European sperm back. Feel free to ask any questions 😊

Which part of Scotland are you in?

My first advice, is if you are planning to go through the NHS and you qualify for their funding, get yourself to the GP and referred to the waiting list now.
We were about a year (Covid) on the waiting list for our first consultation.

We did 6 rounds of IUI, we conceived on our 3rd, but sadly lost 8 weeks.
We were then referred to IVF, where we were 7 months on the waiting list for that.
We have just started round 1.

It's a lot of hoops to jump through for all couples, but worth it.

Hi @scunni92

I just wanted to point out the Donor Conception Network in case you didn't know about it. They have LGBTQ members and produce books for children of Lebian couple as well as Destination Parenthood workhops which are great resources. Wishing you lots of luck!!

Thank you!
We actually got shown some of your books at our initial appointment!
I'm looking forward to ordering them!

I'm currently 32 weeks, my wife was more than happy for me to carry!
We looked up prices for clinics and IVF etc, but we just couldn't afford it! We went with a private donor and at home insemination. Worked literally the first time. Gave me a chance to meet the donor which was amazing, rather than a number on a piece of paper - I got to see him, talk to him, get to know him a little. Even though he is not this baby's dad, he is their bio father.
We have a "Known donor contract" all signed, basically to protect all parties. He cannot come chasing me for visits/custody, but I also can't chase him for money or anything.
Because me and the Mrs are married she is the child's legal parent and can go on the birth certificate!

Hi there, my wife and I are pregnant with our first child! She's currently 4+2 pregnant. Our baby was conceived using a sperm donor through the NHS. She fell pregnant on her 4th round of IUI (3 unstimulated, successful with the first stimulated round).

If you have any questions I'm more than happy to help!

catchthedog · 19/02/2023 17:57

I'm currently pregnant and carrying my wife's embryo. Called Reciprocal IVF. we had to pay privately though as it isn't an option on nhs.

If you want to find a good (affordable) clinic fast, I recommend contacting fertilityclinicsabroad or eggdonationfriends who will send free of charge the list with 3 clinics that meet your criteria (e.g. cost, success rates, waiting time, etc) where you can undergo treatment.

Carajillo · 22/02/2023 19:58

@blacksnow Worth mentioning that only a few European countries have ID release at 18 like the UK. The main ones are Denmark,Sweden and Portugal. You may be able to import ID release sperm to Greece. This is really important for any child conceived.

Thinking about carrying a baby but not clued up at all and very worried about the costs! Where might I go about looking for a private donor and how do I go about doing at home insemination?

catchthedog · 29/01/2024 21:52

Don't- do everything through a clinic, there are far too many legal social and medical ramifications to doing it at home DIY.
@Kate2024. Find your nearest Fertility clinic and ask them about their process and costs. If you're in the UK you can speak to your GP as a first point of contact too.
