Birmingham Womens Fertility Centre

Anyone had experience of Birmingham Womens Fertility Centre at the Birmingham Womens Hospital?

30 and single but wanting a baby. I'm thinking of going for donor insemination. They only have their 2020 prices on there so it may have gone up but from that list I can see the prices are £750 for the insemination. £67.50 HFEA fee. And one cycle of donor sperm at £465.

Does that sound about right? Will there be any hidden fees?

Longing for a child of my own and have the funds for it.

I’m a solo mum and also looking at BWFC! If you download their price list and scroll down it says what’s included or not, but because they are NHS they include things other clinics do not so that’s nice. It LOOKS to me that it will be cheaper, but I’m going to call them to ask about prices and timeline. Good luck OP! Maybe we can check back in on each other!

You’re so right to do it now btw. I am 35. Better to be younger. Go for it!

@NoodleSoup12 Ah how exciting. Have you got any kids already or hoping to be a first-time mum?

I wish they had an up-to-date price list on their website though.

Let me know if you manage to call them. I have tried twice so far this week (once at 8am when they opened, once during my lunch break) and was on hold for over 20 minutes so had to hang up as I had to get ready to go to the office.

I have looked into CARE Fertility in Birmingham as well but they are private so everything is expensive. They also charge a couple hundred for their consultation, whereas Birmingham Womens Fertility state they don't charge as they are NHS.

Hi I’m currently at BWH having my second round of ICSI, as first one didn’t stick 😭 I honestly would stay away from here, I’m 3 days away from the embryo transfer and these are the some of the comments that have been made to me in the last week

“ the nurses know as much as the doctors” this was after I questioned why I’m yet to see a consultant or doctor this round

“ if you wanted better treatment you should of paid private” even though I’ve paid £4,000 this time

“ if your not confident in what I’m saying, you may aswell stop treatment” that being said whilst I’m on 8 tablets a day days before transfer

this place was great when DR sharr was here, but sadly he left to join a private clinic and since then your just seen by nurses, that just don’t care.
sorry to put it blunt. But if you’re paying like myself, save that little extra and go somewhere where you’re valued as a patient. X

@Singleandwantingababy The docs have been great with me so far and it’s been very quick getting into the clinic. I have 4 children with my exP, but sadly all lost, 3 mcs and a stillbirth. I’m getting genetic testing (the reason for losses) there as it’s a really good centre for it. The consultation with the PGTA specialist was fantastic. Totally swung me. He knew his stuff. Are you going for it?

Hi im also considering ivf with birmingham womens hospitality and will need to pay so just wanted to no peoples experiences of them otherwise i would prefer to go private

NoodleSoup12 · 19/06/2023 21:27

Hi guys just wanted to say in the end I was really disappointed with the care here, and left. With a new clinic, so much better, and much easier to communicate with.

Jk987 · 19/06/2023 21:59

You're only 30, you don't need a sperm donor yet!

Tahsha · 20/06/2023 00:47

Hi @ noodle soup12 thankyou for updating im also waiting to have my ivf at birmingham womens so is it best not to go with them? What sort of issues have you had with them? And if u dont mind asking which clinic have you gone with?

Georgia2799 · 20/06/2023 03:30

I’m currently 32 weeks pregnant, so over the moon our baby is nearly here after a long road. But the care of bham woman’s is awful !! I paid for my second round, and if I did it over again go to a private clinic where your valued as a patient, and not reminded daily “ you get the same treatment as anyone else your just paying” paying for the same wait times, lack of care etc

Wow, I started this thread last year and totally forgot about it!

@NoodleSoup12 @Georgia2799 - so sorry to hear your experiences were not great. I never went ahead with anything in the end but I will definitely look elsewhere if/when I do. I hope you both get that BFP soon if you haven't already.

@Jk987 I know, lots of people are saying 30 is still young (although I am now 31) but I don't know how long I want to leave it. It might be too late if I keep waiting. But I'm currently taking a step back anyway and haven't proactively made any steps to get a sperm donor yet.
