I'm about to start IVF at 42 as a single lady for my first child using a Sperm donor. Has anyone got experience of this or any tips please? I'm rather overwhelmed by the experience? Thank you.

No experience, just wanted to say well done for doing it your way. Good luck.

Best of luck!

No experience but sending you luck and hugs . Did have a child in my 40s though and was no problem at all . Your energy levels just grow and grow !

Thank you very much. After many failed awful toxic relationships it was not a difficult decision to make but one which comes with many factors against you at my age.

As another solo mum to teenagers, I would absolutely recommend joining the Donor Conception Network in order to find networks of other solo mums and loads of support for you!

Best wishes

Amazing and good luck! It will be the best thing you've ever done. You've got support on here so keep us updated! If you like podcasts it's worth listening to Sophie Money Coutts (can't remember the name of her podcast but google it) and she goes through the egg freezing process on her own. Really informative with a touch of humor. X

If you're successful my very specific tip is to memorise as much of the medical details of the donor profile as you can or make sure you have it printed out. There's so many questions about family medical history when you're pregnant / with a young child that I hadn't anticipated, and now I think I know more about the donor's family medical history than my own!

Good luck!

Hello @Willow1980, I am 40 and have just found out I am pregnant after my first round of IVF with doneor sperm. You've already had some useful advice, I would also recommend if you are on Facebook checking out Solo Mothers By Choice, I have found it really helpful. The first thing you need to do is find a local clinic, most of them do free open evenings you can attend. Then I would advise you to book a fertility MOT as this will give you an idea of your fertility and help you make a plan. Good luck!

Thank you all very much for all your message and advice. X

Solo mum by choice (IVF with a sperm donor) aged 39, extremely fortunate it worked on the first go.

Hope you're successful first time however it's always best to be aware that it may not.

What has your clinic said/advised? What do they anticipate?

What a coincidence I came across your post! I was writing one of my own last night, but messed it up and had it deleted. I haven't gotten around to doing another one, so I'll just share here. 😊
I'm older than you and had a donor embryo. I now have a beautiful, loving, fun and curious boy that I gave birth to last year. I wish I had done it sooner.
I have two more embryos "on ice" and am considering a second implant so DS will have a sibling, god willing.
Good luck to you. I promise you won't regret it if you go ahead.
