Egg donation Spain

Hello mums, I am looking into donor egg treatment and looking into Spain clinics- ivf Spain, IB, ivi Madrid, Clínica Tambre, ivf Barcelona, etc.
All have different prices, program and some thing is included and some not. It’s too confusing. I want to try for double embryos now and may be sibling for my baby. How many blastocysts do I need to make that happen. How many eggs give good quality blastocysts. Does proven fertility effect the result? What other costs we pay outside the treatment price in terms of blood tests, scans, freezing embryos, travel, hotel, etc.
Ivf Spain Alicante is too expensive and guarantees upto 2,3 or 5 embryos. IB doesn’t give any guarantee. Ivi Madrid give one embryo. So far I like price and guarantee of Clínica Tambre.
What would you suggest? Thank you ladies if you could help me out. This is so overwhelming and I cant share my worries with anyone.

Egg donation Spain

I've just gone through a round of treatment at IVI (Valencia) with donor eggs after a number of failed rounds with my own here in the UK.

The first thing to say is that there is no number that will guarantee what you are hoping for. The lack of predictability is the most difficult thing about IVF, much of it is out of your hands. How your odds stack up against the average success rates will vary depending on your age and fertility history but a chunk of it is based on things outside your control. Statistics are averages and not guarantees.

I can't speak to clinics other than IVI, but we went with them based on their reputation and the fact that they have a clinic in London, which is helpful for organising scans and blood tests you need along the way when not in Spain (just took away an extra stress). We were also impressed by the doctor when we had an initial consultation.

I think the overall costs we paid to IVI Valencia were in the region of EUR 10k (for donor eggs, all the embryology, screening tests, transfer) and around another £550 for the London bits. We ended up with 8 fertilised eggs and 4 blastocysts, 3 of which are in the freezer and 1 of which is the reason I'm 4 week's pregnant. So for that reason if nothing else I'd recommend them! I think in terms of numbers of blastocysts that's about average for IVI and we're in a good position for a sibling in a few years' time.

Happy to provide any other input from my experiences!

Hi Shroedy, thanks for the response. Really happy for you as your treatment went well and you got good number of eggs, blastocysts and frozen embryos for future. The information you provided is really helpful. All the best and please keep posting about your pregnancy journey and the outcome.

@AKLmommy We went to IVF Spain, Alicante, it was expensive and can’t comment on costs elsewhere in Europe as we took a consultants recommendation. I have no egg reserves at 37 years old. I highly recommended you give them consideration, we went for egg donation, the package was roughly 10,000 euro, medication and scan costs on top, at a guess £2000, we stayed for 2 weeks in Spain, at a guess £1400, flights, food and accommodation. Sorry I can’t give exact figures, i avoid looking at my credit card.
A word of advice, buy your medication before you come home to UK, we didn’t and really struggled getting progesterone as there is shortage in UK.
I found my Dr and anyone I met in IVF Alicante very helpful and professional, the Clinic itself is spotlessly clean and like a Spa Hotel, I felt safe and very special. We had 8 mature eggs, 5 fertilised, 4 on Day 5, one transfer and 3 frozen. Our package guaranteed 3 so we had to pay extra to freeze the last baby 🥰
I got a positive test but unfortunately miscarried at 8 weeks. I’m heartbroken but looking forward to getting out to Spain in new year for a transfer. Highly, highly recommend IVF Spain, Alicante
Good luck with your journey x

AKLmommy · 14/12/2021 21:27

@HomeHope thanks for your information. I liked ivf Spain Alicante one. But there egg donation exclusive package is for upto 3 blastocysts is €9700. And if we add family planning for €2000 then they will guarantee 3 blastocysts. Is yours same or something different?
And wish you all the best in your next transfer!

OP posts:
HomeHope · 14/12/2021 21:48

Same, I just checked our invoice, ours was 9700 for up to 3. We didn’t opt for family planning, took our chances and thankfully we got 4 in total.

HomeHope · 14/12/2021 22:09

@AKLmommy see above reply, sorry only new to this site!

gettingolderbutcooler · 14/12/2021 22:22

I went to ceram clinic. 2 cycles, now got twins. It was all very carefully prepped and we arrived out there to have them implanted.
We were also under the care of our local London clinic with whom they liaised.
We had a great nurse specialist in Spain which made ALL the difference. She was also English speaking (as well as Spanish).
My only issue now would be the ability to jump on a flight there and back.
Xx

AKLmommy · 15/12/2021 00:40

Thank you for confirming

AKLmommy · 15/12/2021 00:47

@gettingolderbutcooler congrats..are you pregnant with twins or you already have twins now. And how much did you spend in total and which package did you take? How many eggs did you get from donor and how many made to blastocysts. And did Ceram transfer two embryos at a time? And which London clinic did you have treatment? And how long the whole process took from first consultation to embryo transfer?
Sorry so many questions!! I am also worried about covid restrictions now.

Hi ladies, can I hope in? I live in Spain and was considering IVF Spain Alicante for IVF, then planned to go to Cyprus, and now because of covid and family pressure to do it here in Spain, I am reconsidering IVF Spain. Do you know if they have a long waiting period? I feel so devasted at the moment, it's so unfair all of this, but thank you for this thread and all the information. Good luck to all of you ladies

Shroedy · 20/12/2021 20:59

Hi @IsabelHerna - welcome! I can't speak to IVF Spain but from my experience with IVI there was no waiting list (other than a few weeks for an initial appointment). We were matched with a donor straight away and the regulation in Spain means they have to match you with a close enough physical match. We were told when we Had our first consultation that, unless you have characteristics that are hard to match (eg a donor of Indian origin would not easily be found in Spain) that immediate matches are the norm. I can't speak to IVF Spain but my understanding is that the anonymity granted in Spain means that there are quite a lot of willing donors and availability generally so that experience is probably not unique to IVI. Why don't you get in touch with IVF Spain and ask?

HomeHope · 20/12/2021 22:50

@IsabelHerna you should contact IVF Spain and find out, then make your choice. It took them a couple of weeks to find a donor in May, they said they have young donors due to
University students. Infertility is awful but IVF and donors give us all Hope ❤️❤️❤️

IsabelHerna · 24/12/2021 14:07

Thank you very much, ladies! I will give them a call the first week of 2022 and plan.

@Shroedy thank you so much for the information! Personally, I prefer an anonymous donation so that's good.

@HomeHope thank you for the hope and the positivity

Lickerdysplit · 30/12/2021 13:05

I'm late to the convo, but just wanted to say that we have just used IVI Barcelona and cannot rate them highly enough. So professional. We felt really looked after. Finding the donor took perhaps 10 weeks? So so happy with everything, including pricing.

Make sure you relax a lot and get fit as you can, and be really peaceful around the time you want to conceive. This worked for me. But just be careful, as I used IVI Spain and got pregnant the first time, but the baby looks nothing at all, at all like me, the skin the hair it's all completely wrong and people stare. The clinic doctoor (who we only met the first time and were never permitted to speak to again) told us they use a computer programme to match a donor's features by law, to the mother's, but this can in no way have happened. They are good at getting you pregnant but awful at admin, translating things, I even had a bad experience waking from general anaesthetic and being moved forcefully from the table to something with wheels, the oderly clamped her hand down twice on the thing attached to the vein on my hand, even though I pulled my hand away the first time. But nothing tops being told they picked a donor based on similar features when we look 100% like different races, not only do we look nothing alike but completely opposites. That is, we could not look more different and genetically unrelated.

Hey @Fastfad I realised you said about resemblance about you and baby, don't worry, I used donor method too but sperm, people have reactions but I am so used to it (mentioning daddy is from another country). It's something we have to live with but you will get used to it and you will feel so proud about the differences. At the end of the day, who cares about differences? I say, love the differences more. You will be the mama, and you will also be the mama who carried and suffered for 9 months.
