Rough idea of costs please!

Hello all, DH and I are just starting to consider using donor eggs. I'm finding it hard to find any prices and wondered if you have gone down the donor egg route in the UK would you mind sharing your rough costs? We are trying to work out if it is prohibitively expensive or not before we explore the idea any further.

Our story is that we have been told to try another round of IVF with my own eggs but due to my age (40), and the fact that we are not entitled to NHS help and have a finite budget, we are wondering whether to just go straight to donor eggs.

Costs will vary from clinic to clinic but at one of the main ones with higher success rates an average is below

Thank you Lauren83 are you able to say which clinic that is? We had got it into our heads it would be around £20,000 but sounds like it's more like around £10,000?

I didn't use donor eggs but have a recent price list from my clinic and it's between 10k and 14k for a shared cycle depending on the number of eggs you receive. Then up to ~2k for medication.

If you find your own donor then it's 10k including medication for the known donor

It won't be near 20k, full breakdown of the costs at the clinic below (I work there so don't want to say but it's a well known clinic in the North and would be at the upper end cost wise compared to other clinics) I also have a baby from donor eggs myself

Not all these costs are definite as some you might not need or could get elsewhere to keep costs down

Also meds are likely to be £200-£300 and if you do use a known donor the costs would be as above but the IVF cycle would be £5,500 and you get all the eggs

Hi @ohbigdaddio - donor egg recipient here, both abroad and in the UK.

I can see that @Lauren83 and @cyantist have given you UK costs above, but I thought you might like more info on donor egg cycles abroad. We were tempted by the prospect of massively reduced costs and our base package was £6300 with a clinic in the Czech Republic, but in reality we spent closer to £10k with travel and accommodation, admin fees for the FET, and lots of other unforeseen expenses. If you do go abroad, you might not save as much as you think, but some of the clinics are excellent.

I also did a cycle abroad like @RedPandaFluff I echo what she says, our package was 6,000 euros but then another 1,200 for bloods/freezing and then travel and accommodation bumped it up a fair bit, we did make a nice holiday out of it and the clinic was amazing and all cost transparent but it can be quite inconvenient cycling abroad

@ohbigdaddio I’m in a very similar position to you and whilst we’ve been told we can try again with own eggs, after 4 failed rounds (inc mc’s) we’ve decided on donor eggs. At our consultation just before Christmas all in,inc meds, it will be about £9000, this will be egg share.

Also, should have said as this is the same clinic we’ve used previously all blood screening etc is up to date so you may have to add extra for that

My upcoming cycle as an egg-share recipient is about £6500ish (plus another £1k for donor sperm but I assume that's not relevant to you?). If the lab feels ICSI is needed on the day, that would be another £1k, I think.

Yup, that's in the UK! (LWC Cardiff).

The waiting list for a donor is on the long side now, though (unless you use frozen eggs which have lower success rates).

We spent £10k on 2 rounds of donor ivf in Spain and that included flights and a five star hotel. Must be cheaper than that in the UK.

Thank you all, that's given me a lot to think about. If we do go ahead it would be in the UK because we don't want an anonymous donor. Are all overseas donor eggs anonymous?

We have a consultation to discuss using my own eggs again with a new IVF clinic but as we want this to be our last cycle of IVF we are very seriously considering DE instead.

Currently deciding on whether to do a fifth round with own eggs or move to donor. Not sure how many more we can go, so seeing these breakdowns is very useful.
