Hi,

We are a married female couple about to embark on donor IUI treatment,

Looking for experience and advice from anyone who has done the same? We'll be having the treatment at a fertility clinic and probably importing the sperm due to shortage of UK donors.

Hi I had unmedicated iui and used London sperm bank at London women's clinic. They also transfer their sperm to any hefa clinic in uk and you can download app and have a look at what they have which is helpful,

Jan 17 I did iui, I got a bfp but had a. Chemical shortly after when my af would have been.
Feb 17 I did iui and I got a bfp and it was a sticky bean, baby boy born in November.

I'm just about to try unmedicated iui again for baby no 2 hopefully.

Good luck xxxxxxx

I imported from xytex in america, depending on your clinic you might be able to share postage with another couple as it can cost the same as another vial of sperm just for postage!

good luck with it. some NHS hospitals let you have fertility treatment at reduced cost (homerton and st Thomas's) you still pay for the sperm.

Thank you everyone - we've got our consultation in a couple of weeks, main question we wanted to ask is if we have found a donor we are keen on, are we able to go ahead and order to reserve, or are there more tests etc you need to have beforehand?

And how many straws/vials did you all order?

Thanks again for your advice

Hello, when I wanted to use the same sperm donor agin for second child they were happy for me to get in touch but wanted to check I was with the clinic I said I was using and it was with hefa. I hadn't had my consultation at that time ( I had been to an open day lunch but consultation wasn't booked for another four weeks due to appointments. ) so clinic wouldn't/ couldn't confirm I was with them until after consultation.

I guess I could have still paid before hand but I waited until after consultation in case there were any issues I or the clinic had with going to them for my iui.

For first pregnancy I ordered two vials and This time round I've ordered two.

I know lwc and London sperm bank did have An offer you could pay for two treatments and get three in advance ( but if you get pregnant first go you don't get any money back) I think if you took that offer the sperm offer was the same. Not sure they still do that offer but keep a look out for packages if that interests you. X

Tests wise that will depend on you, your medical history and want you want to pay for.

I had no known fertility issues ( just no partner ) and I declined the suggestion of a hycosy ( I think that's the right one... the one where they flush your tubes out.

I had an ovary scan to check for
Cysts and blood test to check some levels ( I forget which) .

Once agreed I was ok to go ahead I had to have smear test that was within the last 12 months and a variety of tests thorough blood test ( hiv, hep b surface and antigen and a few others I can't remember now)

London women's clinic wanted these tests done within three months of starting any fertility treatment.

Hewitt fertility clinic wanted these tests to be within 12 months of starting any treatment with them. Xx

Hello, we have two children and had treatment at the Diersklinik in Denmark, which was excellent. No drugs necessary etc. But I do remember having a test at the GP to do with oestrogen levels or something prior to treatment to check I could theoretically conceive without difficulty.

Wherever you go, make sure that the clinic has a machine that can scan where your egg is in the tube prior to treatment. I had a couple of false smiley faces with Clearblue, which could have been very expensive.

We loved going to Denmark for treatment. Travelled a different way each time. Treatment is cheaper there than in the UK, so it worked out more or less the same. Good luck!

I don't think you should pick sperm as you have to book a pregnancy slot and I don't think you can do that without being registered? We are going through IUI too. All tests back and good to go - although our clinic is making us go to counselling it's compulsory so waiting on that appointment now!
