Hi, im donating my eggs to my sister and have had the initial medical consultation. When filling out the forms I mentioned a condition I have and didn't think it would be a problem but they are now insisting on a geneticist appointment to see how likely it is to be passed on. There's a chance they could say I cannot do it and I'm gutted, I feel I've ruined her last hope.
I'd rather not say what the condition is as it would be outing but it's not an sti or and life altering illness. It is so minor, causes me no problems and will be fixed with a very minor operation whenever I choose ( think along the lines of a cataract type thing). I have children of my own who have no problems. My sister is well aware of it and it doesn't bother her but they are digging their heals in.

I'm just wondering if anyone who wanted to be a donor has been turned down because of similar things? Sorry if I don't reply straight away to any posters, I will do. Thanks

I have been on the other side & received donor eggs.

Firstly, on behalf of your sister, a big thankyou - you’re the best Grin

As a recipient we were told that donors were asked about hereditary conditions, Spina Bifida and glaucoma, that kind of thing.

I have a strong feeling that if your sister ie the recipient is aware and non-plussed, all will be ok in that respect.

I’d certainly like to think it is.

Wishing you all well x

Ah thank you xx I really hope you are right, just can't help feeling if I'd have not put it down on the form we'd be fine. Seems silly because if it is hereditary then her own biological child would have been at the same risk really! I know they have a moral obligation to the child but it is something so silly even my doctor thought it was odd they were querying it.
Thanks for the reply, it has made me feel a bit better xx

Have you consented to donating your eggs to anyone other than your sister?
The form-filling was honest, don’t feel bad. Even IF they look into the health issue, they will decide if this is a deal-breaker or if they’re happy to proceed. The guidelines I believe are set by HFEA.

I know the eggs I received from overseas were scrutinised a hell of a lot more than here in the UK. DH & I were both stunned at the big difference.

I don't think I could donate to anyone else, I really admire those who do but I wouldn't feel happy knowing my children had half siblings out there they didn't know. I see it as my sister and me are slightly different combinations of the same DNA so it makes sense to me and I'm comfortable with that.
I get health should be scrutinised completely, it's odd that there is such a big difference between practices though

I was just wondering if you had to sign legal docs stating they can be shared. Overseas in Europe my donor was only allowed to donate to me. The ones I didn’t use were destroyed. I’m not after any, rest assured. Grin

You’re such a star, your sister is so so lucky to have you in this undeserved situation.

Frazzledmum123 · 06/03/2018 22:25

Ha ha no I didn't think you were lol. I haven't got to the legal part yet so all that's still to work out I guess. Thank you for your kind words, I just want her to have what I have, what ever person should be able to have without all the crap she's had to go through. I'm glad it worked out so well for you x
