Did anyone move to healthcare after Admin?

Just wondering how people coped when moving jobs from something quite standard (laid back, sat at desk 9-5) to a much more fast paced shift work hospital environment. It seems such a contrast that I am just curious to know how people found the change? I'm considering applying for a maternity assistant after 10 years of being in HR/PA so only office based. I have a 6 year old at school and a 2 year old who does 2 days at nursery.

I am imagining the role is more fulfilling but more stressful, pressured exhausting!? Was the change in role worth it? 12 hours seem long and getting enough sleep with the nights seem hard with children. But I just really feel the need to do something more meaningful outside of the family.

(And do you ever get over a fear of watching/cleaning up vomit!!!)

@pancakes22 hi you could work as HCA in outpatients most outpatients are mainly Monday to Friday 8am till 6pm 4 days a week. Some do Saturdays around every 6 weeks. The workload in outpatients compared to a ward is a lot less stressful!

I worked as a secretary/admin until I was 30 then re trained as a nurse
I had a 9 year old and a 1 year old at the time

I did shifts for 5 years which worked with family commitments

I now work in a very flexible nhs community role Monday - Thursday

I've done something similar. I came from a clerical role in the NHS to a trainee nursing associate. I'm finding the hours hard just because I'm studying and I'm not used to it and I also have 2 little ones. Eventually when I qualify after topping up to a RN I'll drop back to part time.

You'll eventually find your own routine. Give it a go!

Oh also - vomit related. I have a phobia. I'm not over it but the exposure is helping!
