Nurse at the end of her tether.

Anyone else? I think I've had enough. Endless paperwork, constant stress, anxiety and worry. No respect from colleagues. Horrendous hours. Abuse both verbally and physically. Missing out on life and family and friends. Just looking to see how other nurses are feeling at the moment.

I hear you and understand. I'm 11 years qualified. Not reached the end of my tether yet but completely understand why you would be. Nursing is not understood or paid enough....and yes we care and we give but we need to be cared about to.

Are you hospital based? Why not try a car home? I’m not a nurse by our nurses pick their days/shifts and spend half the time in the office eating 😂 I know how hard nurses work and are taken advantage of. Your boss might not appreciate your hard work but I do xx

@peachypeachy what kind of setting do you work in if you don't mind me asking? It's just relentless and I'm so sad that I don't enjoy it anymore. I feel so far from the 18 year old who felt so much pride in putting her student nurse uniform on for the first time.

I completely relate - only it’s the bit in your post that says ‘no respect from colleagues’ that worries me.
Being part of a team and being ‘in it together’ is what gets us through at our unit. We have a huge amount of love and respect and support between us all, and that’s what keeps us going.

Have you worked in just the one place since qualifying?

Have you considered theatre nursing? Obviously it has its own challenges, but staffing levels tend to be better than on the wards IME and stress levels much lower.

Apart from the numbers of scoliosis repairs we are doing I still love my job. We are a very good team. Though I'm infuriated by poor management decisions and wasted money. We've spent ages trying to attain 'Magnet status' only to discover it doesn't cover children's hospitals. And lack of basic equipment such as correct wheelchairs and drip stands.

I hear you. I'm a practice nurse which is much better then when I worked the wards. But i still feel frustration with nursing and a lack of respect from our admin manager but I'm not at the point of leaving.

What would ease this feeling for you op?
