Advice for my mum, a registered nurse, on looking for part-time work

My mum spent about 15 years as a clinical nurse specialist in a contraception and sexual health clinic, going part-time when she turned 60. Recently a different trust won their contract and made lots of changes that made it a much less enjoyable job for a 66 year old, so she left.

She's now looking for part-time roles, for a bit of extra money to help with the rent. She'd like to try practice nursing but there doesn't seem to be any pt jobs going and they all require more relevant experience than she can offer. She's also quite adamant that she doesn't want to go back on the ward.

Does anyone have any suggestions about what kind of jobs she could look for? Anything where there'd be part-time roles (a couple days a week), non-ward based that she could look into?

Her experience would be very useful in school nursing. Some areas accept school nurses without SCPHN qualifications

What about home nursing? There are plenty of agencies that offer nursing at home, for all sorts of tasks. Specifically for skilled nurses, not care workers. Thornbury are a nationwide company I know of, or you can google home nursing near where you live. It's varied and it's essentially bank work so she can pick and choose the shifts she takes

The NHS professionals bank website might be worth a look.

Oh, I didn't realise people had replied as I thought I'd get notifications. Thanks for your suggestions!

I think she'd worried school nursing wouldn't have any part-time availability but we'll have a look and see what we can find.

Bank does seem like the way to go. We will have a look at Thornbury (which we'd not heard of) and various bank stuff on nhs jobs and go from there.

Thanks again!

A lot of nurses on my placements have gone on to work in outpatients or discharge lounge type jobs. All liked it, one nurse was 71 and still doing it.

She could just join NHS Professionals. She can pick and chose her shifts then, as well as get holiday pay
