Hi folks, and welcome to your shiny, new topic for everyone working in or interested in working in health and care. Doctors, nurses, dentists, paramedics, pharmacists and assorted other heroes of our times, step this way. We want to make clear that this topic is only for discussion of the relevant professions so if you spot anyone who has wandered in accidentally with a health-related query do report it and we'll move it over to General Health. Enjoy your new topic!

@WeirdyMcBeardy even when I go to GP or hospital appointments which I have a lot of, sadly I use the NHS more than I would like but I had to medically retire so health is the major factor.

I bring along timelines if needed, the back up copies of letters referenced in the main discussion, list of all medications etc being taken and times (currently is across 5 a4 pages when charted out visually) and meds to avoid as well as another other relevant info, I bring spare copies in a display folder book and then we are all on the same page straight off.

When possible with consultant appointments I send my questions and any relevant info by email ahead of me by at least a week so there is a possible chance to refresh before consultant sees me.

I'm always complimented how it makes things easier for them and that I bring copies for the files, complete with my name, DoB and H+C number and it helps keep appointments focused better as I don't have to explain as much background.

One of the GPs said would you ever consider working in this sort of field (not realizing that was my first career). To be honest, those who are good at the clinical side I never minded picking up admin bits where they were falling down on as we all have different skill sets.

I had a few clinical colleagues who were fantastic at throwing together powerpoints etc and would do that as well as their own letters which I appreciated which meant that those who had better clinical skills elsewhere could have my time to pick up their slack as their admin skills weren't as efficient.

I'm an HCA so not a 'professional' as such but I do the work that A Few of our nurses can't or won't do, like answering call bells.... washes, post op obs...

(And yes we HCAs did bring this up at the ward meeting about whose job it is to answer bells!)

Sorry I'm not moaning about most nurses just a handful that I sometimes work with. Some of the other HCAs sit down a bit too much also.
I just get the feeling that if I don't do certain things when I'm on shift no-one else will bother, I feel like I have mug written on my forehead!

On the whole I do enjoy my job & like all my colleagues & most of the patients are nice, it's just sometimes things wind me up & I think that's normal for every job.

I've just had a petition through from 38 degrees about saving the Open University, which is facing significant funding cuts.

If anyone is interested and or wanted to get involved, I thought it might be worth linking the petition here

I have benefitted personally from the OU and have signed.

Any news on the name change MNHQ?

Im guessing the data stealing hoo -ha has probably taken up lots of time this week?

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 23/04/2018 10:34

Hello folks - our sincere apologies for the delay in sorting this one out - the recent hoo-ha has indeed taken up all of our time. We've now changed the topic name to 'HCP Chat'. The work section of Talk is deliberately quite general, which is why we haven't put this topic in there. We hope that's okay with everyone. Any more suggestions or comments - do fling them our way.
