Finances and house buying while potentially separating

My husband and I have been married 2 years, together for 8. No kids. We sold our flat, and are renting while purchasing another property (complicated and lengthy transaction means its marketed at 100k lower than its value). I earn 32k, he earns 175k. Most of our money is his savings and a small amount from our flat sale is mine (30ishk). He has significant savings (not clear how much but hundreds of thousands). I have approximately 2k. We are from different backgrounds and have very different earning capacities.

Recently I have realised I want to separate. I have been honest about this, but can't leave yet as I am going through a huge period of transition and need stability for the next year. He seems to not believe that I want to separate, but states if we do that he wants a clean break. That would be the end of my life as it is. I would have to move out of London, transfer my job, leave my friends etc as I simply can't afford to live here without him. This is selfish, but I have always prioritised him and his feelings and now need to protect myself financially. I have asked that he give me a year to save up and create stability for myself. Based on our discussions it seems clear he would not give me this. So I continue to allow him to believe I may want to work on our relationship, which gives me the time to work out what to do.

My question - the property we are purchasing is an investment. We could sell for +100k more than we are buying. No matter how this was split if we separated, I would benefit significantly. Is it a terrible idea to buy?

I am stuck trying to decide between a clean emotional and cleaner financial break, versus trying to boost my finances significantly while I have an opportunity to do so, but inviting more messiness.

What does he mean by a 'clean break'? A judge will look at all the assets and divide appropriately. Even though it's a short marriage, they'll take into account the length of the relationship, whether there are any children etc. Start gathering info now if you think he'll hide his money. Good luck x

So you want to stay with him only to profiteer from him - in other words a gold digger.

If I was him I would have you out the door. OP what has changed in the two years since you got married. Is he corrosive , violent. I don’t think you can waste another year of this man’s life so you can build up your finances.

Yes it's a terrible idea.
You no longer want to be married to him.
Buying the house is going to make your divorce take longer and complicate things.
I assume you have access to the 30k that is yours from the flat sale.
