Do we need to get a solicitor or not?

Ds & his husband look to be heading for a divorce. I've read up on the new no fault divorce procedure, it looks like mutual consent, neither is blaming the other, just the relationship has run it's course. They don't own any property & have no children, the flat they live in is owned by sil parents, so each would walk away with what they came with. Do we need to get a solicitor or just put in the application & pay the fees? The finances are pretty even, ds is at university & gets PIP as he is disabled, sil is unable to work due to illness & gets ESA & PIP. I'm trying to get a clear picture of what to do as the divorce process has changed so much since I got divorced 16 years ago.

I dont think you need a solicitor . You can do the divorce applucation online. So there are no finances to settle? Should be very straightforward then!

Even if the finances are simple, you should get a financial order to give them a clean break and remove the risk of one of them coming back and seeking an order years later when circumstances have changed. In theory they can be done without a solicitor.
