Hi,

Just looking for info really,
How much did it cost you to put your name on to his/ hers teachers pension? I don't have a exact figure yet but he said it was 77k if thats makes any difference. I've read it can cost anywhere between 2- 6k which is astronomical!

Also, did you have to have a finically advisor to put your share into a seperate pension.

My solicitor just sent me a draft email and now I have all sorts of questions and hey are closed.

Im feeling stressed its all too much for me atm and all I can think of how much its all costing. Arghhhhh!!!

You won't need a financial adviser yet because there's nothing to advise on. You won't receive any cash out of the pension until your ex claims it or he reaches retirement age. Once he takes the pension you'll receive a monthly amount and probably a lump sum. At the point when you receive a lump sum you can then seek financial advice on what to do with it.

The teachers pension delays have not been resolved unfortunately. I’ve been waiting since August for my CETV and still no sign. I’ve complained multiple times and nothing yet. I believe it’s currently a year delay unless you’re really lucky and one of a small number who randomly get theirs earlier. Your ex will be able to provide a screen shot of the claim it’ll show on his account as submitted (if he did!)

Treacling · 21/03/2026 15:45

Did the teachers pension scheme change at any point?

  • Closure of the final salary scheme: The legacy final salary section officially closed on 31 March 2022, meaning all new pension accruals are now based on the career average revalued earnings (CARE) scheme.

Could the 77k relate to the lump sum for one part of his pension.

You say he’s a slippery character - could he just be applying for part of the numbers?

Id make sure a pensions advisors checks what you are given. It may cost a few quid but I wonder if he’s hiding some of the pension.

I applied for mine in Jan 2025 and it came bsck within a couple of months. My husbands was even quicker.

To clarify what other posters have said, you can get his pension transferred into your own name. It doesn't have to stay in his name until retirement. What you cannot do is cash it in before retirement. So yiy silk have to wait for it but it doesn't have ti stay in his name

beeautifullif3 · 21/03/2026 16:22

Eww its so grabby and gross to go after your husbands pension. Once you divorce you need to sort your own finances out , honestly its just embarrassing

LaurieFairyCake · 21/03/2026 16:33

What a weird post Hmm

it’s neither ‘grabby’ nor ‘gross’ to want half of what you have paid into as a family over the years ….

StellaOlivetti · 21/03/2026 21:32

we are still waiting for the CETV of my husband’s teachers pension. He asked for it August 2024. My financial order stipulated that I’m to get a certain percentage of his pension (we’re already retired) but despite us paying the astronomical “administrative fee” (over two grand), the pension sharing order is yet to be actioned. They are truly a shower of shit, OP. And impossible to contact, obviously.

My solicitor told me that it was unusual to split the cost of a financial order and advised against it.

The cost comes out of the communal pot - it’s only fair that you pay half.

What a ridiculous thing to say! A pension is like a savings account in a way - it may be that he was able to pay into his all the time they were married but she wasn’t as she may have had children and had to stop work.

converseandjeans · 21/03/2026 22:09

I’ve been teaching 24 years and part time for 17 of those. But due to get £10k/year at 60. So it’s not a huge sum & I think you might be expecting it to be higher than it is. Also surely you don’t expect to get any future pension now you are separated?? So 40% of 16 years of teacher pension isn’t going to be huge. You need to focus on improving your own pension now you are separating.

converseandjeans · 21/03/2026 22:53

Also I have put DH as beneficiary of mine & it was free. So I don’t know if you’re referring to a cost incurred by separating. We’re named on each others pensions.

He has been in education 16yrs 12 of that was a lecturer, he told mediation that he had applied for the CETV

Have you actually seen the official letter from Teachers Pensions? If he has been paying into a teaching pension for 16 years his pension would be a lot higher. Can you check the CCTV covers all 16 years. I think lecturers may pay into a different pension scheme.

whymewhyme · 23/03/2026 21:45

Just catching up, I have not seen any proof of what type of pension he has or the amount other than the 77k.

OP posts:
whymewhyme · 23/03/2026 21:47

As for paying half towards the financial order it wasnt just the finacial order he wanted me to pay half of all his fees

OP posts:
whymewhyme · 23/03/2026 21:48

Even though I paidbfor the initial divorce application which he declined to pay half lol

Bernadinetta · 23/03/2026 22:11

Do you have children together @whymewhyme and how old are you both?

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 23/03/2026 22:27

I'd not do that as TP is index linked to CPI.

whymewhyme · 24/03/2026 19:49

Both 41 and have 1 child. We have agreed a split if the assets and his pension. I probably could get more equity

OP posts:
whymewhyme · 24/03/2026 19:50

But I just want this iver and done with at this point keeping my peace and being rid of him is all I need.
