How easy is it to get money taken straight from wages? Ex currently gives me money based on his workings out of cms but I know this is less than im entitled to. The issue is i don't know exactly how much he earns.
I know his new address and his employer, is this enough info? And does it take forever?

I know once I get ball rolling and he finds out he will stop giving me money so trying to work out time frame in advance to cover myself financially.

It wont come straight out of his wages.
An assessment will be done based on overnights and his income vs any other dc he has or lives with. Then he will be issued with an amount that he needs to pay (you'll be notified aswell) and he's supposed to pay you each month if he doesn't for 3 months then you can ask for collection but it will cost you both (him more than you).
As for info his name address should be enough they will ask him for the rest but if you know his ni number that can be helpful

CMS gets the information from hmrc. They also do annual reviews so if his wage goes up they will adjust the payment.

Make sure you are receiving child benefit (or at least registered for it) before applying to CMS. It’s a requirement in order to receive child maintenance through CMS.

Thanks everyone - doesnt seem like there are too many hoops to jump through thankfully!

Really? What about people not receiving benefits who need CMS to help?

It’s child benefit which everyone is entitled to claim (but have to repay if high earner) rather than ‘benefits’. If child benefit isn’t applied for then the child doesn’t automatically get an NI number when they are 16.

A parent in particular who is stay at home should always claim it even if in a very high earning household to ensure NIs are deemed paid for any breaks in their career.
