Today I found out my not yet ex has got engaged to his side piece. Is it weird I don't feel upset, just a bit peed off he has screwed me financially because he was 'going' to buy his own place? Now he's spent the money I bought him out the house with on an engagement ring.

We've just got the conditional order through and he proposed less than a week after sending the financial consent to the court for sealing. Makes me feel like he deceived me to get what he wanted.

His share of the marital assets may be based on his entitlement to an equal share that meet his needs but he doesn’t have to spend it on his needs. He can waste it if he wants and is stupid.

Putting his capital into a property would have secured it as an investment. An engagement ring will be worth a fraction of what he paid for it the minute it goes on her finger. You can’t fix stupid.

I know that from a pragmatic perspective, just irks me from an emotional perspective I suppose.

How has he screwed you financially?

By lying and stating he wasn't cohabiting. By taking a large chunk of my pension because he didn't prioritise his own and wasted money instead. By getting into debt in the marriage that I had to repay when we moved.

He has got what 'he's entitled to' although forgot to consider the fact every penny that went to our jointly purchased home 3 years ago was mine from a home I owned. Whilst I recognise all of this is my fault and I need to suck it up this final act whilst we are still legally married makes me feel disrespected.

Oh and I had to borrow from my parents to pay him off and the thought of their money (albeit I am repaying them over time) being spent on his side pieces engagement ring irks me.

Now someone else has to deal with his shit. You are free from it.

Also, for him (and her), it's probably all downhill from now on. It's sounds as if you are well shot of him.

Look - even if he stated he was in a relationship/co-habiting, he'd still be entitled to 50% of marital assets. You probably should have divorced him earlier - given that he seemed to sponge off you for a while.

Think of it another way - he won't sponge off you any longer. The lucky OW now - can now support him. And as he spent his settlement on a ring - he is not bringing much to the table there. What a gem! She is so lucky
