How can I find the right person to help me with divorce finances

We have got to the point of exchanging form Es. However, my lawyer seems very passive and there are many particular factors that need to be taken into account in sorting out the financial settlement including ill health.

The form E section detailing my needs going forward was very rushed and a bit of a mess.

My lawyer just seems irritated with me and always rushes anything.

I suppose I could just switch to another lawyer, but it always seems hit and miss. My ex and I are currently due for first court hearing.

Is there any other help that I can get from somewhere maybe someone with a really good eye for finances and needs? Would that be another lawyer? Or could I just use a specialist to give me an hour or two for a really good advice? What kind of person would that be? Financial advisor? A mediator with good knowledge of finances?

thanks

I think the answer depends on

how much assets there are
whether they are complicated e.g multiple businesses, offsite accounts, trusts etc vs typical house plus pension
what the particular factors needing consideration are

of course if you’re not happy with a laywer so can always change.

Make your ex an offer. See what he comes back with.

My lawyer gave me an extremely detailed spreadsheet to complete for financial needs.. did you receive something to complete by your lawyer? It took quite a lot of effort to complete but going through it line by line, gave me a solid understanding of my true outgoings. If I hadn’t gone through this exercise I would have massively underestimated my financial needs during the court process.

I used a direct access barrister for a non typical case. But I was confident doing the forms, FDA and drafting my final statement myself and just getting pointers and written advice on finances which kept the cost down.

Is this a formal exchange of forms as part of court proceedings or voluntary exchange of information? When is your court hearing scheduled and do you have a deadline for completion of the form?

What is the issue your lawyer is being passive about ?

At the end of the day if you don’t have faith in him you should change. It’s going to frustrate the other side if you back track

I don’t get anything like that from my lawyer , just a general request to list my monthly costs

If it’s form E there is lots of help online to complete as well

but we aware your needs also need to be realistic within the circumstances of what assets there are
