Hello, have been separated fro 2 years but think i will have to make things formal. Marital assets pretty straightforward but unfortunately think other party will be difficult therefore don't think Amicable company will be a suitable option. I think I will have to engage a lawyer. I was going to try mediation but wondered if I would need legal advice to ensure I don't agree to anything that may not be in mine or our child's interest. Is it best to agree a fixed fee initially? Are there any bits of admin or forms I could do or submit myself to save money?

Help appreciated as i don't have a huge amount in way of resources and therefore need to budget as best i can.

Thanks

You can do most of it yourself and only use a solicitor to help draft things if you wanted

Mediation isn’t binding. Anything you both discuss or propose can be reviewed by a lawyer before being submitted to court.
