In my experience it was valued way less than I thought it was (and what the valuation certificate when ex bought it said!) - I tried a couple of independents as well as a cash for gold type and they were all pretty much the same.

It's kind of shocking how little you can get for a wedding ring at resale. When I sold mine, I only got $1,100 when my ex bought it for several times that. Diamonds just don't perform well when resold unless they are at least 1 carat and of high grade. Had I known what I know now, I would not have sold it for the diamonds but would have focused on the precious metal. I ended up sending mine in to a company that auctions off the diamonds "to get you the highest price," but they don't pay for the metal.

I have recently sold mine - in the end after trying upwards of 20 different jewellers in a world famous jewellery quarter - i ended up selling via private auction (at a fraction of the cost my ex paid for it) . All the jewellers said the same - the market is flooded with synthetic diamonds - unless you have a certificate of authenticity of where the diamond came from they just aren’t interested in buying it as supply far outstrips demand

I work one day a week in jewellers / pawn, helping a friend. Gold price is now very high, weigh your rings and then look up scrap price to get an idea, you will get much better price selling on vinted etc, shops only pay scrap value, you wont get anything for the stones in engagement ring unless big stones and high grade, mark up on new jewellery can be over 800% at times so people always dissapointed when they sell. insurance valuations often are way over the top, you never got that price when you sell. if old mine cut diamonds etc then there is demand for those, lab diamonds have decimated the market now as look identical to mined stones and cost a fraction, china is banging them out for a few quid.
