hey guys

me again, after being asked when im moving out because he wants to ‘live in the home he pays for’ i’m now eager to rent (or potentially buy) somewhere asap so he can stop throwing things in my face - even though his children live here and the house will be sold in a few weeks…ANYWAY

do landlords/mortgage advisors take into account child maintenance?

just need to know whether to inc it in my rough budgeting!

Some do

Halifax definitely do

It totally depends on the lender, some do, some don’t, and some will only take say 50% of it towards affordability.

thanks both - how about UC. will they take that into consideration?

Maintenance was taken into account when I bought my ex out 2 years ago

millymollymoomoo · 22/06/2025 10:36

Again some do

but you should check your uc amount’s because you won’t be entitled to any housing element if you have a mortgage

Babysteps123 · 22/06/2025 18:35

NatWest are taking it into account for my mortgage. Just FYI, you need between 3-6 months' worth of maintenance for it to be considered, depending on the lender's rules.

My mortgage provider wouldn’t consider any income that wouldn’t last the full term of the mortgage. As the mortgage I was looking at was 30 years, I couldn’t use child benefits or maintenance as income.

Halifax do. You can add the following as additional income on their calculator.
They take a % of each into account.
Child benefit
UC
Child maintenance (even if ex just transfers a set amount each month, 4 month of records needed).
