Applying for UC

Evening, recently separated mom here with a 5 year old. House has just been sold. I will be renting with my son, but will need UC. I do work 32 hours as well.
How soon can I start applying for UC, I know it can take 5 weeks to come into effect.
2nd question- also should I look at reducing my hours, is it worth it with the UC.

Check it out on 'TurnToUs' .
I think it depends if you get any equity from the sale of the house. If it's above £16K you probably won't get anything. If it drops below, they deduct a percentage. They'll need to see bank statements to check all the info.
Quite simply, put all your info into the checker, you can go back and change the hours/wages etc. See what works best for you.

Yeah I know about the equity etc, I've been using turn2us loads to check it all, it's more about how soon I can pay for UC to be prepared for when I start renting.

I dont think equity in a house matters? Im sure you need to add it in but not sure it matters. Apply now and then post settlement tell them but I wouldnt delay.

I recently had to claim after moving with my DD and I was unable to make the claim until the day of moving in. It does take a few weeks but they do backdate it and if needed you can ask for an advance payment which gets paid back.
