No solicitor as ended up getting fed up of the cost - £15k.

The family home has sold and we are each to get 50% (financial order in place). The divorce is not finalised as I’d postponed that while the house was on the market - taken 9 months to sell.

Decree nisi granted ages ago.

I want to start viewing houses now but am aware that I shouldn’t purchase a house until the divorce is finalised. Is that right? So, I need to get the decree absolute before I sign up to a mortgage for another house? How long will this take as I don’t want the buyer of our house pulling out?

Am not sure what your divorce has to do with you buying a property, only your name will be on property you have the funds, what does it matter,

If you actually have a decree nisi as opposed to a conditional order then it is very old.

If you have a financial order approved by the court then you just need to go online and apply for final order or decree absolute if it is a decree nisi.

If you have a final financial order your financial ties are severed and you can buy as house and do whatever you want with the money. A financial order means your financial links are severed forever.

They can still claim half of it.

Not if you have a financial order they can't.

Surly if the financial order is in place, anything after that he can not claim on,
