Keeping a loan anonymous (divorce and domestic violence)

My STBEXH got arrested for DV and I’m now in the process of divorce and financial settlement agreement. To pay for my solicitor fees I have been offered an interest free loan from a friend who wants to remain anonymous.
Is there a way we can do this? My bank statements will be looked at so my friend doesn’t want to be seen on that as it will cause potential problems
for them with my STBEXH.

They pay the bill direct so it never comes out of your bank account?

Smartiepants79 · 04/04/2025 22:42

Do it through a third party? Friend pays them, they pass it on to you??

You would face questions about how your solicitors fees are funded. If you end up in contested financial proceedings it would be better for you to have a proper loan agreement drawn up.

DenholmElliot11 · 04/04/2025 22:54

Yes let them pay your solicitor direct.

Yes let them pay your solicitor direct.

The other side will definitely ask why her solicitors bills are not showing on her statements and how’s she’s funding those.

Friend pays your parents/other relative. Parents/other relative pay(s) you?

GreenLeaf25 · 04/04/2025 23:17

im sorry but no one would care or pick up and even if they did she could say that a family friend paid for it. OP if you’re worried, get friend to transfer to someone you trust and get them to pay the solicitors bill directly. I did the same with my sister :)

Thank you all, so friend could possibly transfer to my Mum who could then transfer to me or pay direct? That way as far as anyone’s concerned I owe my mum the money?
When I googled about this, pre-paid credit cards came up, would this be a bad idea?

OP - yes that’s one way. Don’t bother with pre paid credit cards, just get friend to transfer to someone else who can transfer to you or pay the solicitor bill directly

Yes, and write a loan agreement with your mum to say it’s repayable.

SapporoBaby · 05/04/2025 12:44

Just get them to give to your mum. Or pay for the solicitor yourself and use the cash they could give you to pay for other things like food etc

Thank you all, I really appreciate the advice.
