We have had Mediation and have had a Financial declaration produced which details everything however that was about five months ago so finances have changed a little bit since then so we are both seen more each of us has all had and it won't be a lot different now, so I said to my solicitor Can we just not summarise everything into a D81 I've said this to save on all the hassle and expense that would be involved in filling out a form E she said that my exes solicitor wouldn't agree to that, but I don't see why not if we have both agreed to what is in the D81 form we don't have a lot of money and even if I did I wouldn't wanna waste it on loads of legal fees. We have already burnt through about £3000 on Mediation and all we have to show for it is a document with numbers and boxes, which is something I could've knocked out myself in half an hour.

We only completed a D81 - did not complete form E - that was accepted by the solicitor writing up the financial consent order

Thanks one reason I'm being given is that we have 3 properties as to why we can't do the d81 but I don't see what that has got to do with it I think they like over complicating things.
Last time I saw this solicitor I left feeling fairly positive her advice was easy to understand but when I saw her yesterday almost the opposite was true and what she thought was a reasonable proposal by me last time the same proposal this time I couldn't get a straight answer my head was spinning at the end of it - this divorce process is doing my head in

We only did a D81 form & we had 5 properties between us. Like you we ended up doing most of the solicitors work for them. But we kept the whole divorce to around £3k on solicitors fees.

Thanks for sharing that, that's good to know I think the legal profession like to string things out. But having said that she did recommend doing as much as we could ourselves

I work in law (and have experience of most areas) and I can assure you, decent solicitors don’t string things out for no reason. They are usually overworked and want cases wrapped up as soon as possible. They also can’t deliberately make things more expensive to earn more fees because it has to be accounted for.

This is true of decent solicitors. I do know of some who are not so decent - including one who told his clients they had to pay him costs on account DIRECTLY to his own bank account 😱

in that case why don’t they advise “if you can agree you can follow the process on the government website “
