X and I have been separated for 18 months, living together at present but he is finally moving out at half term. We are amicable and have discussed childcare arrangements for our 2 children. We are divorcing online, I don't know wether to get a solicitor, what will they actually do? I don't want them to cause conflict between us that isn't there!

Apart from the divorce, which is pretty straightforward, the other side is the financial settlement - division of assets. This is usually the contentious part. It is worthwhile running any agreement past a solicitor to make sure you are not being disadvantaged. Particularly if you took a step back from a career to look after small children, whilst husband carried on building their career and pension. If you are both equal in terms of earnings, pensions, savings/investments and are 50:50 for child care and house equity, then should be OK.
