Choosing a barrister

I have a First Directions Appointment coming up at the end of March in Surrey.

I wondered if anyone had any advice on how to find a barrister? or had any recommendations.

Whilst i am sure my solicitor can recommend one I have concerns, the pension actuary she recommended was completely clueless.

I have seen a few sites that offer the ability to find a barrister but I wondered whether this is a "race to the bottom" on prices?

I have spent ages trying to find barrister reviews. Some barristers seem to have reviews on their sites but the cynic in me thinks they probably ignore the poor reviews.

Many thanks

Its really difficult, my solicitor recommended Ewan Murray and he's been fantastic, highly recommend.

I self represented and used Christopher Miller, also from Foruteen and so far he’s been exceptional. He is insanely clever and well prepared (my financial case is fairly complex and he made it easy to understand). He’s also very kind and honest - I believe he genuinely cares and he was very generous with his time. By contrast, the female barrister from the same chambers that my ex used was completely clueless about the more complex financial aspects, very poorly prepared and kept having to resort to lying and bullying tactics.

Are you sure you need a barrister for the direction hearing?? Not much will happen there. The Judge will look at the issues, documentation and will order what is needed next and when by and list the next hearing. Research it as well.
