Family solicitor / splitting assets

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good family solicitor in East/Central London? I separated from my partner early this year. We weren’t married and have two children. He stayed in the family home (an unfinished renovation project) and I moved into a privately rented flat. We own the property 50:50 and are both named on the deeds. I desperately need to get the capital I have invested to be able to move on (I will be stuck in rental accommodation with debts otherwise) but he is refusing to discuss either selling or buying me out, although he has assets and could afford to do so. I ended the relationship and he is angry/trying to assert control over the situation. I’m thinking legal intervention is the only way forward. Can anyone recommend a good solicitor or does anyone have any advice on the best way forward. I’d be keen to try mediation but he has so far refused to engage.

Thanks

Have you thought about representing yourself? It's likely just a case of applying to the court for an order to sell the property.

Once you have this order you can then proceed.

@Chowtime Thank you. I hadn't thought of this. Is it quite a simple process? I read something suggesting you need to go through mediation before approaching the courts.

You’re approaching it from a family law perspective- the fact you have a family is irrelevant here as you’re not married.

@SunQueen24 Thanks for your message. Do you think the mediation rule wouldn't apply here then? It would be classed just as sale of a shared asset?
