Does anyone know where I stand legally if my husband leaves the family home and wants the kids to stay in a room he rents in a shared accomodation?

My ex has never had the kids overnight for the reason however it’s his own house but he rents out the rooms never been a problem but that’s because he doesn’t want them overnight, not sure what would happen if he tries to fight it. How old are the kids?

If that is where he lives and it is his time with them then that’s where they will stay.

No, just the choice he has made to save money but he could have a place of his own

He just upped and left so there were no arrangements in place about when they spend time with him

Completely depends. Will they be sleeping in his room? How well does he know the other occupants? Does he have enough beds for them? Are the kids comfortable with it?

They will have their own beds but in the room with him so not their own space. The kids love the idea but he has got them all excited by promising them all new toys, etc. The other occupants are completely unknown to me but he works with them, before this he never spoke or met up with them outside of work.

Ah Thats tricky with their ages as they don’t really have a say under 10

PureBoggin · 13/09/2024 22:40

Hmmmm. I personally wouldn't be comfortable with this at all. Will he be able to guarantee he will be with all children at all times? Have you spoken to a solicitor?

If he works with them and the kids will be sleeping in his room I see no issue at all. My dad had a similar living situation for a few months when I was a kid and I can't imagine having not stayed at his for months on end.

I have 3 children under 10. I don't allow them to visit the HMO or stay overnight. He'll have to take me to Court. It's his choice to live like that. He could get his own place but hates spending money on non frivolous things like rent when he can go on holiday (without the kids!) my eldest daughter is 9. im not comfortable her sharing a bed with him at that age when she has no choice in the matter and shes wanting to have space from her younger siblings.
