Rent if one/both parties needs to spend a period renting whilst the house is sold and proceeds divided.

Are kids involved?

Hi Dear,
It sounds like you’re doing a thorough job of preparing for the costs associated with divorce/separation. Here’s a more comprehensive list that includes what you’ve mentioned and a few additional items you might consider:

  • Estate agents selling fee for house
  • Solicitor fee for selling house
  • Solicitor fee for buying new house
  • Mortgage arrangement fee
  • Divorce application fee
  • Consent order writing
  • Solicitors advice fees
  • Mediation fees if used
  • Separation agreement lawyer fees
  • Court fees (if applicable)
  • Child custody evaluation fees (if applicable)
  • Financial advisor fees (for dividing assets)
  • Moving costs (if one or both parties are relocating)
  • Therapy or counseling fees (for yourself or children)
  • New home setup costs (furniture, utilities, etc.)
I hope this helps you get a clearer picture of the potential expenses.
