My son, presently has parental responsibility for his 12 year old daughter who lives with him. His wife can only see their daughter with supervised access. This was decided at a court hearing last January with another court hearing scheduled for the end of May. Cafcass were instructed to complete reports and interview both parents and the child. My son received a phone call last month from cafcass saying someone was off work ill and they were unable to submit reports and there would be a delay of at least a month. My son informed his solicitor straight away. He had just been informed by email that the court hearing is still going ahead this Friday! All that will happen is that it will be adjourned again until they have cafcass reports but my son still has to pay £950 for the hearing. Surely this can't be right. Has anyone any advice at all? He only earns a modest wage and this is money he simply doesn't have. He's just so upset and frustrated about the whole thing and so am I.

Is this a court fee or a solicitor fee ?

If the former then he needs to complete this

If solicitor fee then he needs to self
represent which is extremely common since legal aid was removed.

It's a fee from the solicitor apparently. He's worries that if he self represents they may go ahead with the hearing anyway and he won't represent himself in the best way. There has been a serious incident, in which the police were called, which needs bringing up. I just don't know if the hearing will definitely be adjourned to wait for the cafcass reports or if it's possible the court might reach a final decision without the reports, based on the recent incident. This incident will definitely go in my son's favour.

Also, is the solicitor at fault here? Should she not have asked the courts to postpone?
