Just that really. If you have, was it good advice? I suppose I'm a bit nervous because it seems too good to be true! Free advice and you can book a time slot.

It's okay for simple divorces but the calculator is nonsense. They're less well equipped to deal with complexity and the purpose of the free calls is much the same as that offered by a law firm, they want to sign you up.

I would say you get what you pay for and the £600 I paid for 2 hours consultation was worth every penny, not least because I was told my ex-wife was extremely unlikely to get spousal maintenance and her solicitor was bluffing!

Found the settlement calculator to be widely inaccurate

I'm hoping my divorce will be simple. The children are old enough to not come into the equation and my husband and I both work so I don't think I'll have any spousal maintenance to pay.

I may give them a call but then also call the solicitor I've been recommended.

It sounds like the calculator isn't worth bothering with though.

You can do a lot of reading online to educate yourself on both the process, forms and what the principles of fair settlement are

you can also look to agree most of it with your ex if you can sit and negotiate together- me and my ex did this, and kept solicitors to a minimum

At the moment, he doesn't appear to be talking to me. But hopefully we can sit down at some point. I don't want to waste money on solicitors unless I have to and once he calms down, I'm sure he won't either.
