Your top downsizing tips?

Hello :)

I am (happily) reaching the end of a protracted and difficult divorce. The big family house is about to sell and I'm looking at next steps. Unfortunately I've been let down with regards to a couple of lovely properties I was due to buy, and so now am embracing the highly practical option of a house in the best area for us. Due to what is available, it is right at the bottom of my budget and is really quite tiny with very little option to structurally change this but I'm thinking it is going to be the best option for at least a few years.

So......what are your top downsizing tips? It is me, a 4 year old and a dog. I'm open to anything! (And this is slightly light-hearted, just looking for others' experience. Please no one tell me to get rid of the dog!)

Watching with interest…. Downsizing from 5 bedroom to 2/3 bedroom with 4 children!

I downsized from a beautiful 5-bed to a tiny 3-bed with 3 kids needing work. We are absolutely fine. My ex took EVERYTHING so I came with nothing. Although it was of course a pain and expensive to replace beds, pots, pans, sofas, tables etc it also means I only have what I really need and no clutter taking up unnecessary space. And it’s quite liberating too, to have no items from the family home, if you are coming out of an abusive relationship.

Take with you want you only genuinely need. Everything else is just ‘stuff’ which will cramp your space.
