for what magazine or paper?

thelonemommabear · 29/11/2023 18:30

If I'm honest I don't actually believe you can do both. But it very much depends on personal circumstances - I have a challenging full time professional job in a male dominated environment with 2 year old twins and a 6 year old. I've been divorced (unexpectedly) for a year. I have 99.9% parental responsibility for the children. I realised Recently under these circumstances I can't be a good mum and a good employee at the same time.

I don't think I do, I feel like everything gets a little bit of me, but not the fullness it/they deserve. I run my own business, have 100% responsibility of teens and a needy dog. I'm exhausted and stressed. I'm lucky to be fairly financially stable, have amazing friends, and an okay relationship with XH. I'd never have believed you if you'd have told me 2 years ago that this would be my life.

how can you have an okay relationship with ex husband but he has zero responsibility for his children?

thelonemommabear · 30/11/2023 09:13

@Geneve82

I would say my relationship with my ex husband is "ok" despite him having barely any responsibilities and pays a pittance in CMS. It's ok in the sense that we aren't at the point of only communicating via solicitors etc."ok" can mean lots of things. In my situation "ok" just means I don't wish him dead (all the time!)

It's complicated. He does see them but can't have them overnight due to restrictions he has due to a conviction, and he can't be involved in their schools/clubs/etc so it all falls to me. He's not a bad person, just did something really stupid which has had a huge impact on our family.

bloody hell

Geneve82 · 30/11/2023 11:52

that conviction must have involved sexual misconduct in some way

Geneve82 · 30/11/2023 11:54

sorry that was to @Fourmagpies

mine is also ok

but then again, my ex hasn’t been convicted of a sexual crime and is forbidden by law to have our children overnight or work in any capacity whatever with children

is yours @thelonemommabear ?

I think balancing career and family is a constant challenge, but setting boundaries, prioritizing quality time, and embracing flexibility helps. Rely on support systems partners, family, or daycare, and remember, perfection isn’t the goal. Small wins make a big difference.
