Hey
i can apply for decree absolute from the 30th of November I have a solicitor working on my behalf he isn’t the best at responding to my emails so im hoping you guys may be able to help 🙏🏻
I just want to know how long does it take for the court to receive the application for the absolute as I’ve heard it can then take 2-3 weeks before your divorced once they receive is this true?

I think it took 4 - 6 weeks but I got divorced more than 20 years ago.

Mine was very quick. It was a ‘no fault’ divorce so it wasn’t acrimonious, all done the same day I believe.

Oh wow that’s great 😃 do you know if solicitor will automatically apply for me or will I have to do anything?

Mine applied for me. My solicitor was very proactive and had it all ready to go. Went in at 9am the first day it could go in! I’ve heard some people’s takes a couple of weeks but mine didn’t. That was early on this year.

5 days to come back in December 2021.

3 of those days were Xmas day, boxing day, and a 27th Bank holiday.

It is advised not to apply for the Absolute if you are still waiting on Financial Order agreement. Based on that, I would assume you would have to instruct your solicitor to go ahead.

That’s amazing does a solicitor do it all on line or does it have to be sent via post?

Pretty sure mine was all online. Done virtually.

blobby10 · 09/11/2023 10:33

My solicitor did all mine but please please please do get the Financial Order in place before you do otherwise if you win the lottery or get an inheritance your ex can make a claim on it!

2022NewTimes · 09/11/2023 17:59

Definitely get a financial consent order before applying for final order.
You are not financially severed without it ...

Globules · 09/11/2023 21:31

I put through my absolute online myself. I had all the information I needed to do this, as I submitted the initial divorce application myself online. I didn't use a solicitor to do it.

It was a lovely evening with a friend, drinking champagne and hitting the button that said "yes, I want to turn this decree nisi into a decree absolute please. And do it as quick as you can. Thank you very much"

NuttellaAndPuppyLover · 10/11/2023 15:52

I would also recommend doing the consent order first. You never know what can happen.
Once I had mine, I applied for the final order, my (ex) did it the day after, and the final order was granted in about 12 hours. All done online.

GAAM · 11/11/2023 01:23

Hi thanks for reply does the solicitor do it online or send papers to the court?
