My husbands depressed and is refusing to get help. I’m planning on leaving him. We have a mortgage and two young children.
Any practical advice on how to start? When I start any kind of conversation with him about our issues I feel extremely anxious after and he just gaslights me throughout. I feel like if I could be prepared behind the scenes and have some kind of plan it would help me to follow through with what I want to do.
thanks in advance

I found that speaking to a family solicitor really empowered me.
Get your wage and child benefit paid into your own account.
Get screen shots of any bank accounts/pensions/shares etc

Thank you!
what kind of things can the family solicitor help with?

Tell you what you can expect to get financially, tell you the process.
Make sure you take those screen shots, and an idea of what your home is worth.

Are you leaving him or do you want him to leave? The first is easier because it's totally in your hands. Take your marriage certificate, a copy of his NI number and payslip of where he works.
Book an appointment with a solicitor they'll detail the practical steps and timeliness of a divorce.

Thank you for the advice.
Well I guess I want him to leave, but I know I won’t be able to afford our mortgage on my
own so eventually we will have to sell the house. It feels overwhelming which is why I thought if I can do the first few practical steps it might help me.

This might be useful to you - https://iamlip.com/help-guides/pre-divorce/ it’ll help you know what to do beforehand and get your stuff together so you’re ready and better prepared. The rest of the resource may be useful too x http://iamlip.com/ It’s completely free which really helped me as I couldnt afford to use a solicitor, but my friend did use the resource with a solicitor to save money by doing a lot of it herself with the website’s help e.g. filling out forms. Hope this can help!
