What’s the quickest divorce time?

Name change but long time poster. My washing has been ‘darked on’ for example.

Divorce. How long does it take? What’s the fastest? I’m about to inherit from a parent and it could sort me out in my own house but if it’s included in the pot in divorce then that will make it much harder for me.

sorry for the lack of emotion. I’m not a cold person but too overwhelmed to include the emotionality of it all here at the moment.

Get legal advice. It isn't always that straightforward. Sometimes, if it is kept separate and does not contribute to the household, it can be ringfenced and protected. Other circumstances, it cannot.

As I understand, anyone can apply for a divorce online now, but there is a 6 month cooling off period before it will be finalised. And that doesn't include the financial settlement side of things. For some people, that is quick and easy, for other, it can take years.

In Scotland, financial settlement is from the point of separation, in England, from the point of divorce.

So, lots of variables and no one here can answer your individual situation. Ultimately, if you no longer want to be married, apply for the divorce.

6 weeks and a day between nisi and absolute, if I remember right.

But it can take years to get to the nisi stage, if you're not in agreement...

A straight forward divorce takes 6 months. The solicitor will work on the financial order inbetween the application and the conditional order, so that it can be submitted once the court grants the conditional order.

Speak to a solicitor about the inheritance as if you get it after you have separated and started the process it may not be taken as marital assets. I know my house won't be (or ajy inheritance I get now) as I bought it after we separated and split the marital assets. I needed somewhere to live and couldn't afford to waste the money on rent.

Xh and I had no children and a short marriage. 6 weeks to the first decree, whatever it's called. Another 6 weeks to the final one. I don't think it could be much shorter than that. Also that was 22 years ago and I haven't paid much attention since.

I would ask around for lawyer recommendations then call 2 or 3 and go with the one you like. I would say that my priority is to divorce ASAP.

Ah I see the law must have changed if 6 months is the minimum, apologies.

Thank you all.

I applied for divorce in June. Was done and dusted by October, that was with a deemed service because I could prove he'd had the papers and done nothing

When I saw the solicitor last year I thought the timeline was ridiculous. They need to make it shorter especially if people have been separated for a while and no children or finances involved. Why do I need to wait 26 weeks when I've been separated for 5 years already!

I don't think I had to give that much notice to marry him!

We had no joint dc or assets..threw him out 30th June. Divorced finalised 27th September..
