Revert to single name after final order

I have just received my final order and when applying I had stated I wished to return to my single name.
I was hoping the final order would state something to confirm that so I could update my documents, but it doesn't.
How does this work, anyone knows what I have to do now to update my records?

From my experience, your decree absolut is sufficient in requesting your name changed on documents? Although I'm all honestly, I've never actually been asked to provide it to work, insurance companies, UC etc!

Its just that the document doesnt say "the applicant will now revert to her name xxx"...
I really wanted to update drivers license, passport, nhs and hmrc i guess, then all else flows from those.

I was told by my solicitor to change it via a deed poll which I did and got a few copies, signed by said solicitor, as needed them for banks, driving license and umpteen other things.......its a real pain, if I had daughters I would tell them not to change their name on marrying!

Once you have your Decree Absolute you can use the document, along with your birth certificate / marriage certificate, to revert to your maiden name. I started with renewing my passport, as the passport then becomes a certificate document carrying proof of name.

This is how I did it too. It's an absolute pain getting everything changed back. I'm still finding things to change 18 months on.

This. You don’t need a deed poll.

The order won’t have anything like that on it as you’re not required to change your name if you don’t want to.

Personally, I left all my legal stuff in my “married” name . After 30 years plus of marriage it was my bloody name too
but I do now use my maiden name for everything else and wherever possible
i sort of see it as a additional bit of personal information security - legally and financially I’m one name, but social media, all my post etc (except gov/financial) is in another.
🤷🏼‍♀️
3 years later it’s working fine

I didn't see anything on my absolut about names post divorce???

NewmemyselfandI · 17/08/2023 09:31

Thanks everyone, yep I can see the benefits of keeping the name, just the hassle of changing all seems like good enough reason, plus its my kids name... I'll see as I'm not british so have docs in 3 countries to swap 🙄 and they may have different rules... It's so easy to get married but splitting everything after 2 decades is tough! 💪
